Principals' Greeting
Dear Parents and Guardians -
It was a wonderful week of teaching and learning at PVM with your students this week. The time change had everyone in a loop on Monday and Tuesday, but by mid week we were nearly back to normal around here. We are all starting to look forward to Spring Break on the horizon, but we will continue to make learning a priority and focus for the next two weeks. We look forward to conferences and our early release schedule on the 20th and 21st. Teachers have already reached out to students and families who may need some extra support for success in our final two terms of the year.
Thank you to each and every family for giving us the opportunity to make a positive impact in your student's life. We take the responsibility of educating and creating good citizens seriously here at PVM. Enjoy the warmer weather headed our way. Spring has just about sprung at Pleasant Valley!
Thank you,
Austin Brothers and Alex Bennett
LAST CHANCE FOR YEARBOOK AND 8TH GRADE BABY PHOTO SUBMISSIONS: DEADLINE IS MARCH 22ND
* * * We REALLY need 8th grade students' baby photos! MARCH 22ND IS THE LAST DAY TO SUBMIT ANY PHOTOS FOR THE YEARBOOK! We have only received baby photos for 12 of our 96 8th grade students. * * *
Yearbook staff is looking for great photos for our 2023-24 yearbook. If you have taken some good photos of PVM sporting events, activities, PTA events, class projects or general student life, please upload them through the link below so they may be considered for our yearbook.
The qualities below make for a better photo for yearbook purposes:
- Close up photos, as it is often hard to see students/activities in distance photos
- Good focus, not fuzzy
- High resolution is better for larger photos
- Action shots are always fun to look at
If possible, please note names of all students/staff being pictured so we may check our "no photos" list for any who are not to be pictured in the yearbook.
*** 8th grade parents please send in your student's baby photo - ages 0 to 3. Only one photo is needed. Please be sure to add your student's name when you upload the photo. Don't miss out on having them featured in this fun photo spread. Last day to submit photos is March 22nd.
***New 3/19*** Registration open for Right At School’s spring break camp
Right At School, the district’s before/after school care partner organization, is offering Spring Break camps for primary school-age children. GAME SCHEDULE
Reminder regarding aerosol sprays, cologne, perfume etc
Due to the number of students, staff and visitors who live with asthma, migraines and/or sensitivity to scents, chemical odors and aerosols, we are asking students and staff to please not wear or bring cologne/perfume/body sprays to school. Please do not bring/use aerosol sprays at school, and deodorants used at school should not be an aerosol variety. We realize for many it is a pleasure to wear a scent, but for some it can cause a life threatening situation or a migraine, and we prefer to err on the side of caution to avoid causing a health issue for any of our students, staff or visitors.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration of our PVM family
Parking lot, parent pick up/drop off reminders
These procedures are to keep students, staff and families safe and to keep the pick up/drop off lines moving so traffic doesn't back up onto the main road.
- Regardless of being in a hurry, please travel SLOWLY at all times while driving in the parking lot; cell phones should be put away while driving. There are students and staff present and it can be hard to see when one will walk out from between parked cars
- The traffic loop to the far right as you enter is BUSES ONLY, NO CAR DROP OFF/PICK UP during normal arrival and departure times. Please do not drive or park at all in the far right loop area at these times
- The traffic lane straight ahead when entering the lot is for car drop off and pick up
- Parking is to the left when entering the lot, if you need to park and walk up
- Students may start exiting cars no earlier than 7:45 am (8:45 am on late start Wednesdays)
- Students arriving to school should be ready to depart the vehicle as soon as it stops in front of the school building
- No parking in the pick up/drop off area (other than while waiting in line for school to let out). Please keep the line moving. We also have an Aspire bus that comes through that area and it cannot get around vehicles parked along the curb
- Wait for the cars in front of you to move, do not pull out around them
- Pick up: Parents picking up students should join the double line waiting to pick up. Car lanes will zip together after the second crosswalk
- The center lane is for travel, do not park in that lane to wait for students
- Please have your student enter your vehicle when you are in front of the school building, not up the sidewalk. Wait for the cars in front of you to move, do not pull out around them
- DO NOT allow students to cross traffic lanes or weave through cars to enter your vehicle, wait to pick them up at the curb in front of the school
- DO NOT have your student cross the lane of traffic to come out to your vehicle in the parking lot, or on the far side of the parent pick up lane. It is NOT safe for students to cross traffic unescorted
- If you park in the lot and wait for your student, you must pick them up on the sidewalk in front of the building and escort them to your car, DO NOT have them cross traffic on their own to walk out to your vehicle
- Be aware that there may be cars backing out into the travel lane
PVP pick up time - PVM students being picked up after after-school activities
- The farthest left lane as you enter the parking lot is for parents parking and walking up to collect students
- Parents picking up students should join the double line waiting to pick up. Car lanes will zip together after the second crosswalk
- DO NOT allow students to cross traffic lanes or weave through cars to enter your vehicle, wait to pick them up at the curb in front of the school
- Wait for cars in front of you to move, don't pull out around them
Late Arrivals
If you drop your student off at school after the school day begins, please come sign them in at the office. At the very least, please call the office 360-885-5500 before leaving to let us know your student is on campus and on their way to the office for a pass. Then we can also get attendance information from you. For safety reasons we do need to know they have arrived on campus.

What you need to know about vaping among youth
Inhaling and exhaling the aerosol produced by an electronic vapor device, also known as vaping, carries health risks. Vaping products can include nicotine, chemicals, marijuana or other drugs that can affect students’ learning, attention and self-control. While most youth nationwide are choosing not to vape, we are concerned whenever a student chooses to use these products. Read about how the district helps students make healthy choices, how parents and guardians can help teens and consequences when a student uses vaping products at school.
Notes from the Nurse
Hello PVM families!
Latest COVID-19 guidance
The health of our children is important to all of us. Battle Ground Public Schools is working with Clark County Public Health and the Washington state Department of Health to continue best practices for responding to COVID-19.
COVID safety in schools
- Battle Ground Public Schools is following the standard guidelines for keeping children home from school. These are based on the infectious disease guidelines provided by Clark County Department of Health. The guidelines apply to both staff and students.
- Staff and volunteers are no longer required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Volunteers must still complete the standard clearance process.
- General masking is optional in schools, including in school health rooms.
- Anyone may choose to continue wearing a mask on school grounds. We expect our students and staff to continue to show respect for one another and the many different viewpoints that make up our community.
- Rapid test kits will continue to be available in buildings for use at home. Depending on availability, these also may be obtained through the Washington Department of Health website.
Staying healthy
Clark County Public Health recommends that people take the following actions to prevent colds, flu and other respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19.
- Stay home if running a fever or experiencing other symptoms of illness. See our guidelines for keeping children home from school for more information.
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. When soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
- Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces that are frequently touched.
COVID-19 cases in schools
Starting with the 2023-24 school year, the district will no longer maintain a COVID-19 information dashboard. Information on outbreaks, as identified in consultation with Clark County Public Health, will continue to be communicated to staff and families as necessary. Previous data can be found for the 2022-23 school year, the 2021-22 school year and the 2020-21 school year.
