The Vietnam war began in 1954, when Ho Chi Minh rose to power. The Vietnam war preceded towards the end of the cold war between the United States and the Soviet Union. As American involved in the Vietnam war grew so did the division of the American people. By 1969, more than 500,00 member of the U.S military were involved. Not until 1973, did Richard Nixon withdraw U.S forces from the war. In 1975, communist took over Saigon ending the Vietnam war. More than 3 million people were killed in the Vietnam War.
Did you know: Nearly two-thirds of the American men serving the war were volunteers.
Weapons of the Vietnam War: During
The weapons used in the Vietnam War were more dangerous than any weapons used in any previous war. Both sides of the war relied on air forces. Thousands of Bombs were dropped over North Vietnam. The B-52 heavy bomber, helped the U.S. and South Vietnamese dominate the skies. Both sides utilized a variety of tools to further their war aims, including highly toxic chemical defoliants or herbicides and booby traps using sharpened bamboo sticks or crossbows.
