The Richardson Review
February 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our building has been bubbling with excitement since the return to in-person learning for many of our students. Our youngest penguins are on their third week of in-person learning and have been working hard in their classrooms.
Today we welcome back our Third Grade, Fourth Grade and Fifth Grade students who have signed up for in-person learning. We hope these older penguins are as happy to be back as we are to have them back.
We also want to give a big shout out to all of our students, families and staff who will continue on with the Distance Learning Plan. We know you are working hard with See Saw lessons and joining in on your daily Zoom meetings.
Due to health and safety reasons, students should not bring any treats or items to distribute to other students. This includes treats and items for birthdays and holidays. We will still acknowledge and celebrate birthdays and holidays in fun and safe ways in the classroom, when possible.
We understand that Valentine’s Day is coming up and in a normal school year, we would allow students to exchange cards and treats during a brief time in the classroom. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic and additional health and safety measures in place at school, please do not send treats, cards, or other items to school with your child. We will plan alternative activities to allow students to appreciate one another in a safe way.

National African American Parent Involvement Day- Feb. 8
National African American Parent Involvement Day- Feb. 8
Unfortunately, due to COVID, we cannot welcome families into our buildings this year to celebrate National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID). We want to provide an opportunity to connect with your student while they are in school, either in person or in distance learning.
NAAPID started in 1995 and was inspired by the historic Million Man March. Our goal in the celebration of NAAPID in District 622 is to strengthen partnerships with African American families and to receive feedback about the educational experience.
We know that students LOVE getting messages. We would like to use encouraging and inspirational messages to strengthen the partnership between families and school. We have attached a link below (Student Message Form) that you can fill out anytime during the month. We will deliver or mail your special message throughout the month as a surprise for your student. Please fill a form out for each student that you would like to have a message delivered to.
In non-COVID times we also gather feedback on NAAPID from our families. Please use the Family Feedback Form below to provide insight on how we can improve our partnership.

PTA News
The PTA is a non-profit, school-based organization, designed to support our students and staff. The PTA is comprised of all the Richardson parents and/or guardians. All are welcome!
PTA Goals & Objectives
- To support and enrich our children's education
- To facilitate good communication between administration, staff, and parents
- To promote school spirit
- To encourage volunteerism
Please consider becoming part of this amazing team. With some of the current member's children now being in the 5th grader, this would be a great time to join the team and shadow the members who will move on at the end of the school year.
The PTA is also looking for a volunteer to chair the book fair.
If you have any questions or want to be more involved, please contact Sarah Morrison at richardsonptapresident@gmail.com
