The Outsiders Soundtrack
Amanda Curry period 3
Flaws - Bastille
This song represents Cherry Valance talking to Ponyboy. Ponyboy thinks that the Socs have everything and their lives are so easy. The singer says, "all of your flaws and all of my flaws, they lie there hand in hand". In reality, the Greasers and Socs have the same problems. Cherry says, " We have troubles you've never heard of. Things are rough all over" (chapter 3). At :52 he says "You have always worn your flaws upon your sleeve and i have always buried them deep beneath the ground". While both groups have the same problems, the Greaser's are much more obvious than the Soc's.

Things We Lost in the Fire - Bastille
The "fire" in the song represents Johnny killing Bob. They lost everything because of it and got into a lot of trouble. At 1:43, the lyrics are "I was the match and you were the rock, maybe we started this fire". This refers to Johnny and Ponyboy getting into trouble with the Socs. They might not have gotten as badly beat up if Ponyboy hadn't called the Socs "white trash with mustangs and madras" (chapter 4). At 2:43, the lyrics say "The future's in our hands and we will never be the same again". Johnny and Ponyboy went through something that night that would change their lives forever and they were never the same again. At 1:59 the lyrics say, "We were born with nothing and we sure have nothing now". The Greasers didn't have very good lives to begin with and things just kept getting worse for them. Everything went downhill for them after that night in the park.

Phoenix Hearts
This song represents the Greasers attitude when going into the rumble. They are all very excited but also nervous for the rumble. At :35, it says " our angels soar, ready for war" which represents Johnny being there with them in spirit even though he is still in the hospital and can't fight. They feel more empowered and more determined because they want to win for Johnny. At :44 it says "The arrow flies, our eagle dies, but our voices rise" which makes them want to win this even more for Johnny. Even though the Greasers had been through a lot lately, they pull together and get enough strength to come out on top at the rumble. At 1:27 the lyrics are "This shattered field of broken dreams is looking for new life, so we glue our bones and find our hope". They pick themselves back up no matter what so they can fight for Johnny. They also thought that maybe winning the rumble would help them as a group and bring them together because their "field of broken dreams is looking for new life".

Silhouettes - Of Monsters and Men
This song represents how Ponyboy and the rest of the gang feels after Johnny dies. In the beginning of the song it talks about how the gang is trying to get over it and let go, but it just feels wrong without him there. Ponyboy said, "You know a guy a long time, and I mean really know him, you don't get used to the idea that he's dead just overnight. Johnny was something more than a buddy to all of us (Chapter 12). At 2:05 it says "No matter where I sleep, you are haunting me". Ponyboy and the gang will never forget what happened and they will never forget Johnny. At 1:22, the song says, "There's nothing I'd take back, but it's hard to say there's nothing I regret". This refers to Ponyboy maybe feeling guilty for what happened. He's the one that ran away with Johnny in the first place and he also talked back to Bob with got them beat up more than they might have.

Radioactive - Imagine Dragons
This song represents how Dally feels after Johnny dies. He is so angry and upset and feels like he can't go on without him. In chapter 10 Two Bit says, "So he finally broke. So even Dally has a breaking point". At :57, it says "I feel it in my bones, enough to make my systems blow." Ponyboy says, "He's gonna blow up. He couldn't take it". Dally basically committed suicide when he robbed the grocery store. He led the police to the parking lot and held up his gun so they would shoot him. "And even as the policemen's guns spit fire into the night, I knew that was what Dally wanted". He would have never been the same without Johnny.
