Lowell Memo: Issue #5
October 11, 2013
From Mrs. Melton...
Greetings from Lowell! It was wonderful to see so many families at school this week with Walk to School Day and the Run-A-Thon, and we're pleased that so many families have also scheduled Parent-Teacher Conferences for the week ahead. Our partnership positively impacts our children's school experience!
While we are still a few weeks from report cards, we know your children's progress is likely on your mind as you come to conferences. Our teachers have been very hard at work implementing our new math curriculum aligned to the Common Core State Standards; with that, as we discussed at Curriculum Night, the district is also moving into Standards Based Grading in math. Please take time to read the letter you received via Blackboard Connect to grow your understanding of this shift. In addition to the letter, Assistant Superintendent, Faith Dahlquist, has recorded the the video below to address report card changes. Our teachers look forward to sharing the strengths of your children, addressing your areas of concern, identifying opportunities to work together to support areas of need, and how your children will be prepared throughout the year to achieve ongoing learning and mastery of standards. When we do arrive at the first trimester report card, I'm confident your children will benefit from math reporting that is tied to each standard rather than tied to a single grade. Please feel free to contact me with questions as they arise.
Have a wonderful week!
