From the Principal
State assessments have begun! 3rd and 5th grade started today and they did awesome! They worked hard and did their best. 4th grade will start on Monday of next week. We will be testing through the last week of April. Families will get a score report for each assessment. We are hoping to have those later in May.
I want to send a huge shout out to Allene Schworm for securing healthy snacks for students during state assessments. She wrote and received a grant to make sure every scholar had a healthy snack to eat each testing day. Also a shout out Ryan Michael, General Manager of Checkers, for personally donating sandwich bags and giving us a huge discount on food. In addition, their Little Debbie representative donated 250 granola bars!
Mrs. Shoop planned special treats for the students and staff involved in state testing as well! The primary grade levels sent encouraging messages to our 3rd-5th grade scholars. Go Sunflower team!
Lastly, we are celebrating our amazing Paraprofessionals, Intervention Teachers and Library Staff this week! They do so much for our scholars and staff!
As always it is an honor to serve as the Principal of Sunflower Elementary.

From the Nurse:
Shout out to Checkers Grocery!
We are happy to announce that grades 3-5 will be provided a snack each day prior to their state testing this year. This was made possible through discounts and donations from Checkers Grocery store. Money was used from a grant earned by BCBS KS.
Items include bananas, cheese sticks, pretzels, and granola bars.
Please say thank you to Checkers by supporting them on your next grocery run AND turn in your receipts to the office! Sunflower receives credit for money spent at Checkers to purchase much-needed items like playground balls!
From Sunflower PTO:
Board Positions
Over the last few months, we have communicated board openings for the Vice President and Secretary positions. We have had two candidates come forward. Please visit our Facebook page to read the candidate bios. There will be a vote to fill the two positions at our May PTO meeting.
Volunteer Positions
*We have a Committee Chair position open for the Scholastic Book Fair. Tara Fagan has successfully overseen the Book Fair for many years but will be stepping away next year. This could also be a Co-Chair position. If you LOVE the book fair and are interested in heading up this committee, please email sunflowerelementarypto@gmail.com and we can discuss the position.
*We are also looking for volunteers to help with the book fair for the 2022-2023 school year. Please contact us if interested.
