Principal's Message
Dear Niton Central School Community,
We had an absolutely fantastic first week of school! Seeing the students so excited to return was an absolute privilege! This week, we are hosting a Meet the Teacher night on Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. We'll have hot dogs, snacks, and beverages, and we're looking forward to seeing you there!
Looking ahead to some important up and coming events, Volleyball will be starting this week with boys on Mondays/Wednesdays and girls Tuesdays/Thursdays! Go Knights Go! Please join us on Tuesday, September 27th, for our first School Council meeting. We will be announcing the time on Facebook in the coming days. Lifetouch Photography will be coming in for School Photos on Monday, September 26th, with retakes/missed students scheduled for Tuesday, October 25th.
As there is no school on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Sept 30th), we'd like to recognize Orange Shirt Day at NCS on September 29th!
Finally, I want to remind parents/guardians that we encourage you to reach out to your children's teachers. Having a positive, collaborative relationship is so important in ensuring the very best support for your children!
Mr. Steve Ripkens,
Principal

PowerSchool Parent Portal Update!
Parents/Guardians who have not yet set up their PowerSchool Parent Portal yet should keep an eye out for letters coming home with their children with instructions on how to do so. While this change will simplify payments in the long term, we know there will be a transition period as parents/guardians and school's staff get used to the new system. If we can provide any assistance in setting up your Parent Portal, please don't hesitate to contact this school.
Screening
These screens provide us with useful information which guides instructional targets and strategies to support individual students, classes, and the whole school. We use this data, in addition to our Assurance Surveys and Provincial Achievement Test results, to determine our School Continuous Improvement Plans, and our instructional focus. Please see the attached letter below with information on screening assessments mandated by Alberta Education. Should you have any questions regarding other screening tools/assessments, please reach out to the school!
