CMS Professional Learning Symposium (August 20-22)
We are excited to welcome all certified CMS school staff who are planning to return to CMS in 2018-2019 to the CMS Professional Learning Symposium on August 20, 2018 through August 22, 2018.
Content/curriculum sessions will take place at sites across CMS during these three days. Choice sessions will take place at one of four sites (Hough High School, Olympic Community of Schools, Spaugh PDC, and East Mecklenburg High School). Attendees can select choice sessions from any of these sites.
Sessions will last for either 50 minutes, 1 hour 50 minutes, 1/2 day, or 1 full day. A 1.5 hour break is scheduled each day from 11:00am-12:30pm for lunch and travel.
It is an expectation that all school based leaders and certified staff will attend one of the five half-day Keynote sessions at Ovens Auditorium and all certified staff will attend their required sessions and at least a half day of choice sessions. There are a few job titles who will have a conflict with their curriculum sessions and the Keynote Session at Ovens (dance, music, PE/Health, hs counselor). These staff, along with school based presenters who may have a conflict, should pick another session at Ovens to attend.
School based leaders are welcome but not required to attend required and choice sessions with their teachers. All attendees will need to find their school's preselected Keynote Session time within this chart, in the registration system. Please note there are caps on each of the five keynote sessions (2400) as well as our choice sessions.
We have designed a dynamic system that allows you to create a personalized agenda. Please use the Advanced Search tool within our event website to help you narrow down your search and then build your customized schedule in our registration system. We encourage you to search for sessions in several ways.
SafeSchools ELearning Platform & Mandatory Safety Training
SafeSchools’ suite of online training programs include easy-to-use solutions for staff training on important workplace and school-related topics. The initial deployment of training courses will address regulatory expectations, such as Discrimination Awareness, Sexual Harassment and General Workplace Ethics. The Employee & Labor Relations department has compiled mandatory district compliance training modules that will deploy in a phased approach beginning July 23, 2018.
Employee & Labor Relations Mandatory Compliance Training Launch Schedule:
- July 23, 2018 – Supervisors with direct reports
- August 6, 2018 - 12 month employees (non-supervisor)
- August 20, 2018 – 9, 10, 11 month employees
The training modules are an average of twenty-five (25) minutes in length and include knowledge checks to ensure understanding of the content. Current employees are asked to complete the mandatory trainings within 30 days of the respective launch dates. As a part of onboarding, all newly hired employees will be expected to complete the mandatory training during the first fourteen (14) days of their employment with CMS beginning July 23, 2018. If there are any questions, we would ask that you contact your respective HR Team Leaders.
