ANCIENT GREECE
RYLEE SCHEEL
INTRODUCTION
I chose to research the topic "Ancient Greece". My three paragraphs are about "The Hellenistic Age and Roman Conquest", "The Peloponnesian War", and "Slavery in Ancient Greece". I chose the ones that were the most interesting to me. I hope you will think it's interesting, too. These are the topics that I wrote about.
THE HELLENISTIC AGE AND ROMAN CONQUEST
The three centuries after Alexander's death lead to the Hellenistic Age. Most Greek citizens lived happily during this age. When Rome was conquered, the Hellenistic Age came to an end. When the Romans defeated Macedonia in 197 BC, Greek cities gained freedom because they were allied with Rome. Corinth was burned in 197 BC.
THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR
Jealousy directed at Athens started the Peloponnesian War. It began in 431 BC. The war was between Athens and Sparta. The first phase of the war ended without a winner. The Athenians lost and were sold as slaves.
SLAVERY IN ANCIENT GREECE
The Athenians were slaves. 2/5 of its population were slaves. When a city was conquered, the people were captured and sold as slaves. However, the Athenian slaves were allowed to save money, so eventually, they could buy their freedom. Most free slaves were forced to work miserably in silver mines.
CONCLUSION
That was the research I did on Ancient Greece. I was interested about it and chose the topics about it. I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did. I hope you learned some interesting facts and information. This concludes my project on Ancient Greece.
