A "welcoming" community
Yesterday, I happened to venture into the copy room and saw that Kendra Brooks had posted an event on the Pineapple Chart. Realizing it was occurring at that moment, I re-prioritized my TS 5 and went in the classroom.
How joyous to find her AP Lit class in a student-led discussion about a poem I was unfamiliar with. In fact, I don't think I've really discussed a poem in about 17 years since I left the classroom. I tweeted about the visit immediately.
Good teaching can be creating a class culture where students facilitate and are encouraged to take risks. Thank you, Kendra.
The Pineapple Chart is here for you to welcome fellow educators into your classroom. It's a medium for teachers to share an open door with other adults in the building. Sometimes my schedule and the events that transpire in the day thwart my plans to visit classes that have invited me through the Pineapple Chart.
Please consider one class this week that you would like to share with your peers and post it on the chart. Even if you posted before and no one came, try it again!
Finally, in honor of yesterday's Pineapple visit, I am wearing pineapple socks today!
Thank you for this consideration and taking risks.

The Pineapple is a universal symbol of welcoming. What a joyous way to welcome in the New Year at Joseph Case High School and celebrate all the wonderful events that occur each day in our classrooms.
Cheers!
