Notes from the Principal
In lieu of Green Tickets and Green Ticket Drawings this year, we're having School Wide Character Celebrations. Celebrations will often be presenters/assemblies that are brougt in, but could also include a school dance party or beach party (TBD!). We're making this switch because every now and then it's good to shake things up to keep them interesting, and also because green tickets were usually given for compliant, expected behaviors, rather than the acts of good character that we want to acknowledge. Every couple months, classes will have to provide evidence of how students in the class have shown character and will have to "apply" to gain admission to the assembly/activity. Our hope is that these assemblies are fun, memorable, have good messages, and help us to recognize the acts of character going on around us.
Our first celebration will be the Magic Show on Friday, October 12th. See detailed info about the magician below. He'll do a show for students in the afternoon, and then he'll do a totally different (and equally awesome) show for parents the evening of the 12th. We encourage you to come with your family; it's designed to be an interactive show with you and your child. All ages welcome. And FREE to you!
This event is being funded through donations and school-based fundraising such as Box Tops.
Family Magic Show--Friday October 12th at 6:30pm!
Chicago's 1st Place Magician Will Challenge Edgewood Elementary School Students to be PRO-KIDS!
Greenfield, WI Edgewood Elementary School will present Tim Hannig's Pro-Kids Show for students on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2:15pm. A totally different show for families will then be presented at 6:30pm. Hannig's Show is a fast-paced, entertaining one-man show with custom music, amazing illusions, hilarious comedy, ventriloquism, drama, and audience involvement. Tim Hannig's Pro-Kids Show is more than just entertainment. It has a message for students and families, revealed with wit and warmth. Throughout the unique program, the audience will be reminded of the importance of character traits like honesty, respect, cooperation and responsibility.
The programs have been seen by more than 2.6 million people throughout the country. He has performed for Six Flags, The White House, and in England. He also the first person in Chicago History to win BOTH 1st Place & The People's Choice Awards at The Chicago Magic Competition TWICE. One of the judges was Chris Jones, chief theatre critic from the Chicago Tribune, who said, "BRAVO! With formidable skills charm and warmth, Tim really is amazing!" Other newspapers have described "The Pro-Kids Show" as "refreshingly wholesome", "hilariously entertaining", and "an experience no one should miss", while describing performer Tim Hannig as "a combination of many things: magician, slapstick comedian, singer and storyteller", "an instant best buddy" and a "general all-around friend of children, who gets his audience involved for the fun of it." In most schools, Hannig presents his program in two parts: a daytime assembly for the students, followed by a completely different program in the evening for the whole family. EHSA Update
October is here! Our next EHSA meeting will be Tuesday, October 9th 6:30 PM in the learning commons.
Last month we did some general planning for our school events and fundraisers. We will continue to plan the EHSA sponsored Halloween Dance and discuss the happenings around Edgewood School. We will also discuss our big fundraising goal for the 2018-2019 school year. All parents/grandparents/guardians are invited to attend our monthly meetings- come once, or monthly, we are glad to have your feedback and support! (Students are also welcome to attend!)
The Halloween Dance will be Friday, October 19th 6-8 PM. Flyers went home in yesterday’s Thursday Folder. Please consider volunteering for set-up, clean-up, or a short shift during the dance. (You don’t have to come to a meeting to help- just sign up on our Sign-up genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D44ADAF2BA1F49-edgewood )
Edgewood will be hosting a Scholastic Book fair October 17th-24th. It will be open for shopping during student lunches, the Halloween Dance, and both parent/teacher conference dates. This is a great fundraiser for our school- students can shop for books they are interested in and books can be purchased for classroom teachers from their wishlists. With our school profits, EHSA can continue to support field trips, special events and our classroom teachers.
You may also shop our online fair Oct. 10th-24th for a larger selection- books are shipped to school during our book fair. http://www.scholastic.com/bf/edgewoodelementaryschool26
