The Bear Necessities

Tornado Drills at GBEEC
We began using the word cyclone instead of tornado just after Joplin, due to the fact that the word tornado was scary to our students. We may call it either one, they both mean take indoor shelter away from windows and exterior walls.
TAKE YOUR WALKIE with you when sheltering. We are going to move to an attendance type of call system, where staff will account for themselves and answer that they are present and if they are red or green. If you are missing a student, you will state which students you are missing and the person who has the student will use the nearest walkie to report the student's location.
If you have a student that belongs to a classroom, do your best to find that classroom if there is time and reunite that student and teacher. It makes the "Find a student" issue take much less time. This won't always be possible, but should be the goal, especially during drills (fire/tornado).
We only shelter in the Large Conference Room, Workroom and PAT Mail Room. FEMA looked at maps of every school in the state after Joplin and told us what rooms to use for shelter.
Positive Notes
Don't forget to draw attention to the "good" in others, it really does only take a minute.

Reminders
FRIDAY MEMO
Tornado Drill
Announcement will be made “Cyclone Drill” and staff / students will proceed to their assigned area for shelter.
Roll call will be made over the walkie. If you are a classroom teacher, please respond green or red. If red announce who is missing. Other staff will respond with “green”. (If you are not issued a walkie, use walkie from another staff.)
Staff Absence: If you secure a Para sub through the District, please include the sub’s name in your email to the office.
Mail procedure instructions and mail supplies are in the File Room. Please remember to place KC Presort slip on mail and secure with a rubber band.
Please notify the office if a Title student is now eligible to receive Special Education services. Please place the Title cumulative file in the brown file.
Regarding time off requests, classified staff will still need to request the entire time off. If they request 4 hours and they return after 4 hours plus some, they will need to modify this time off request or work the extra time before the end of the week.
