Weekly Update
Week 9 Recap
This week we began our next manipulative skill unit in all grades. Kindergarten-2nd grade classes worked on underhand tossing and catching, and 3rd-5th grade classes worked on overhand throwing and catching. In lower elementary grades, we focused on stepping with the opposite foot of our throwing arm, as well as catching a soft object safely in our own space. In upper elementary grades, we discussed the purpose of an overhand throw (power and speed) and practiced our skills by playing Capture the Flag. All classes did an AMAZING job of letting losses go and showing good sportsmanship. I am super proud of our Husky PACK!
Supporting Our Students
I know many of our students participate in activities outside of school, and I would love to support them in any way possible! If your student plays a sport, dances, does gymnastics, plays an instrument, or participates in any other out-of-school activity, please feel free to send along their performance/game schedule to haley.barnes@wbsd.org and I will do my absolute best to attend at least one!
Throwing/Catching Continued - Up Next!
Next week in PE, students will be continuing to work on their manipulative skills in lower elementary grades. Students in Kindergarten-2nd grade will move on to overhand throwing, and will practice with partner challenges and the PE version of Battleship. Upper elementary students will continue perfecting their overhand throw, adding in a deeper focus on catching a ball at different levels or while in motion. Families can support learning at home by working on hand-eye coordination and practicing using encouraging words when frustrated. It's always a GREAT day to be a Husky!
