DHS Broadcast
February 22, 2018
A message from Mr. Finkle!
As I write this, many of us are still in shock over the events of Parkland, Florida at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. In reaction to this horrific event, we have met as both a school and a district to ensure that our safety plans and procedures are rock solid.
The school administration and a representative from the Delran Police Department met this morning with the entire student body to explain the importance of our drills and procedures. We explained how they can help by relaying any information they find on social media or through talking with their friends to a trusted adult to hopefully avert any such occurrence here in Delran. We also explained that members of the Delran Police Department will continue the practice of visiting the school as an added level of protection.
In the remote chance that we do have an emergent situation here at DHS, we need to learn from previous situations. ne lockdown about a year ago that occurred in Cherry Hill allowed that community to become educated in case a similar event happened to occur. As an example, the items below outline important takeaways:
• Parents: Please resist the urge to rush to the school.
• Students and parents: Do not text and/or post information and images related to the crisis on social media. Posting and sharing information about occupants’ whereabouts potentially puts those in a lockdown at risk should there be monitoring taking place.
• Trust in the law enforcement officials and school district staff on site
We understand your level of concern in these types of situations; however, I guarantee that the only thing running through our minds will be the health and safety of the entire DHS community, especially our students.
Please understand that if you arrive at DHS for a meeting, you will not be buzzed in automatically and that you will be asked to show identification and the reason for your visit.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me to discuss.

Athletic News
One week of the Winter season remains and advancing in the state championships is on everyone’s minds. Girls’ Basketball received a 15 seed for the tournament that starts on February 27th. They will be travelling to Cinnaminson for a 4:00pm start. Please go and support their team. They have worked so hard all year. Boys’ Basketball will play their last game on February 22nd at Audubon. Injuries and illness played a role in many outcomes this year but the students never quit and we are so proud of them for that. The Delran Wrestling team finished 3rd in District 23 as a team. 7 students qualified to move on into Region 6 which started on February 21st. Burak Ozbay, Zach Bohn and Bryan Miraglia still remain in the tournament. They will be competing on February 23rd and 24th in hopes of remaining in the top 4 spots of their bracket which would qualify them for the state championships next weekend in Atlantic City. Good luck to all of the teams and students that remain and congratulations to all of the other students who participated in a Winter sport and devoted their time and energy to their team and teammates. Go Bears!!!
Attention to students who want to play a Spring sport! A new form has be added to the ATS requirements. The NJ Department of Education has created an Opioid Fact Sheet that must be reviewed and signed off by all athletes and parents before participation can occur on March 2nd. If you have already filled out all documents from a Fall or Winter sport, you must reenter ATS, review the Opioid Fact Sheet and complete the electronic signatures required. Once electronic signatures are complete, the Opioid Fact Sheet with signatures must be printed out and placed in the box on the front counter of the main office. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Guidotti or Mr. Caplin.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: if your student wants to participate in a sport during the school year, the student must have a valid physical. Once a new physical is complete, do not hold onto it. Turn the physical into Mr. Guidotti or Ms. Jordan so that it can be forwarded to the school physician for approval. Make sure that all information on the physical and health history form are filled out completely and accurately. In addition, a student may not participate in a sport unless the ATS portal has been completed. Directions on how to complete ATS can be found on Mr. Caplin’s teacher page.

AP Bulletins and Information Guides
AP Bulletins and Information Guides were distributed to all AP students on Thursday, February 1st. Students were instructed to share the information with their parents/guardians. Even if you are enrolled in the CAP Program, all colleges nationwide may not accept CAP credit, and it would be in a student’s best interest to also take the AP exam. Deadline for AP test registration is Friday, March 2nd. Return the registration form and fee to Mrs. Newman in Guidance. If you receive accommodations through an IEP or 504, you must apply to the College Board separately for AP accommodations by February 23rd. Your guidance counselor can assist.
If you receive free or reduced lunch, you are eligible for exam fee reductions and you should see Mrs. Galati or your guidance counselor. Duplicate Bulletins and registration forms are available in Guidance.

Kindergarten Registration
Dear Delran Families,
We are attempting to locate children who live in Delran and are eligible for entrance into kindergarten for the September 2018-2019 school year.
If you have a child or know of a friend or neighbor who has a child in Delran who will be five (5) years of age ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 30, 2018, please click here or visit the Delran Township Schools Website.
Thank you.
Math Calculator Reminder
As a reminder, every student at Delran High School is required to have his/her own graphing calculator and bring it to class daily. Calculators are available to borrow for the year for students who do not wish to purchase their own. With standardized test season approaching, students will need to bring their own graphing calculator for math testing dates. If your child still does not have a calculator, please fill out the Graphing Calculator Loan Form and return it to your child’s math teacher ASAP.
Alumni Walk
Alumni Walk Update- We are paving the way to celebrate Bear Pride! The Advisors from the Class of 2017 are working on their inlay design. We are very hopeful this year’s Senior Class will buy a brick and cast their permanent legacy on DHS. It looks like we have established a new tradition of not only allowing a platform for individuals, but also each graduating class as a whole, to leave their mark. Please consider purchasing a brick in order to pave the entire walkway. The link for purchasing a brick is below. We would also like to acknowledge the work of Best Cut Lawn-care and Landscaping for installing our bricks. They have donated their time and talents to DHS and provided their work free of charge. Thanks you Phil Velo and Best Cut.
