Tilghman Tiger Talk
October 15, 2021 Principal Update
2021-2022 School Year
Dear Tilghman Families,
Here are a few updates and reminders to keep you informed.
Unity Day:
This Wednesday, October 20th we will be wearing Orange for Unity Day. Wear and share your orange to prevent bullying and to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Early Dismissal:
October 29th is an early dismissal day. It is also the end of Quarter 1. Teachers will be using this time to finalize grades. Report cards will be issued on November 5th.
Congratulations:
Congratulations to the lucky winners of the FARMS grocery store gift card incentive. 22 winners from TCPS were chosen for a total of $2,475.00. TES had 2 winners. Those families have been notified by TES staff.
Thank you to all of our families for completing the FARMS applications. We need everyone to participate so if your family has not yet completed an application, there is still time. Please see the online FARMS link below.
Targeted Assistance Title 1 School:
TES currently qualifies as a Targeted Assistance Title 1 school. Parents have a right to know the qualifications of all staff working in a Title I school. Please visit our website and click on the Title I link to see the 'Parent's Right to Know' letter to learn more. See additional information below.
PTO Fundraisers:
Our ShopFund Holiday Sales Book purchases are due tomorrow, October 18th. Items will be delivered before Thanksgiving, just in time for holiday gifts. We appreciate your participation and help!
Please contact Faith Mitchell (faith.mitchell@talbotschools.org) ASAP to order your mums for delivery on October 29th. Please reach out to Jess Weems, PTO President, if you have any questions.
Illness:
Please keep your child home if she/he is not feeling well and let the school nurse and your child's teacher know (Nurse- tbatley@talbotschools.org). If your child is awaiting COVID test results he/she should remain at home until a negative test result is received even if there are no symptoms. You will need to forward a copy of the PCR test results in order to return to school. TCPS follows strict guidance from the Talbot County Health Department on quarantine procedures when a student is sick or exhibits Covid-19 symptoms. In addition, please make sure you send a parent or doctor's note if your child is absent for any reason.
Please see the TCPS chart and link that shows Covid cases and quarantined students by TCPS school below.

Quarantined Students:
If students are required to quarantine, teachers will be providing work for students to complete and will reach out to assist during student absences. Please contact the school to make arrangements for picking up work. Teachers may also be reaching out to set up Zoom meetings for instructional purposes.
Thank you for taking necessary precautions and keeping students home when they are sick.
We appreciate your willingness to take your child/children to the doctor and to get the PCR tests when necessary. These decisions help us all stay safe and healthy!
If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

TILGHMAN ELEMENTARY IS PROUD TO BE A TARGETED ASSISTANCE TITLE I SCHOOL
Important Information for Parents
Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), Tilghman Elementary School is a Schoolwide Title I School, which means that TES receives supplemental Federal funding based on census data and poverty estimates.
At TES, these Title I funds provide:
● Academic monitoring
● Parent resource materials and other family supports
Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) specifies requirements for Parent and Family Engagement in their child’s education.
As part of those requirements, we ask for parent input on our schoolwide plan, home school compact, District wide parent engagement plan (located on our school website under Title I), and the spending of parent and family engagement funds.
Please review our Parent and Family Engagement Plan and Home/School Compact on our school homepage. Your comments and feedback are welcome on any and all language, layout, content, grammar, graphics, or any other area.
Please make any suggestions you like on the document itself, or by e-mail to Principal Kelly Murdoch at kmurdoch@talbotschools.org
