Vikings Leash The Bulldogs
8th Grade A Boys:
Last night the 8th-grade Boys took on the Burnet Bull Dogs, in a great showing of Team Basketball. The Vikings came out on fire from the start with great passing and rebounding, which allowed the Vikings to take an early lead and never look back. The leading scorer for the Vikings was Reese Koncak with 12 points. Leading in team in steals was Devin Parsons with Five. Leading the team in Rebounds was Steven Schwerdt with eight and next was Jack Wright with six. Leading the team in 3-pointers with Karter Kudrna with three. Overall it was an amazing game and a great bounce back after the long break. The Vikings showed what Hustle and Effort looked like. Go Vikings!
7th A
The 7th grade Vikings had a great game against a talented Burnet squad. The game was tight from the start with both teams coming out hot offensively. Tied 8-8 after the first, the Bulldogs were able to break away with some big shots, but Lago stayed in it and was down 20-16 at halftime. A strong defensive effort from Brody Norris, Levi Castro, and Kaden Hodd helped Lago keep it close as we went into the 4th quarter. Some clutch buckets from Cole Schroeder and Raylan Horton, and a 13-point effort from Ayden Chaffin boosted the Vikings over the Bulldogs for a final score of 32-27 to improve to 4-1. Other notable performances from Trevor Lane and Axton Sharrock helped control the game at point guard, and Jayden Vargas overcame a 3rd quarter injury and finished the game with a few rebounds. After this game, Coach Keel is very proud of his team for a gutsy, gritty win.
Our LVMS 7th grade B team basketball squad played its first game of 2024 at home against the Burnet Bulldogs. The Vikings were fighting back and forth for the lead against the Bulldogs in the first two quarters. We went into the half, down by 1 point. The Vikings had a tough third quarter, with the offense failing to put up any points. The Bulldogs ended up running away with the second half, putting up 24 additional points. The final score of 17-36 left the Vikings with another disappointing loss for the season. Our defensive player of this week’s game is Travis Long, with 5 steals and 11 rebounds, and our offensive leader of the week is Brysen Cox, with 8 points and an assist. This loss brings the season record to 2-3.
Our LVMS 8th grade B team basketball squad played its first game of 2024 at home against the Burnet Bulldogs. The Vikings were neck and neck with the Bulldogs in the first two quarters, going into the half, down by 5 points. The Vikings had a tough third quarter, putting up only 3 points, and the Bulldogs ended up running away with it in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 points. The final score of the game was 24-40, in favor of the Bulldogs. Our defensive player of this week’s game is Tyler Tristan, with 8 steals and 6 rebounds and our defensive player of the week is Thomas Ramsey, with 11 points and an assist on the night. This loss brings the season record to 0-5.
Big thank you to the High School Basketball Team for coming to our game!
8th B vs Burnet
The Lady Vikings traveled with only 6 players to Burnet for what we knew would be a fight. If we were tired we sure weren’t showing it. Kennedy Brown and Elle Head managed the ball well offensively contributing 2 points each. Kennedy set our offense in motion which allowed Sophia Garcia shot opportunities from under the basket. Sopha was able to muscle up 6 points against a very tall Lady Bulldog defense. Hannah Koenning led the Lady Vikings in rebounds. Helen Munoz and Valerie Marin also played well defensively coming away with steals and rebounds for their team.
7th B vs Burnet
The Lady Vikings traveled to Burnet. Liana Stevens came off the bench early in the 1st quarter and secured our first points of the game to get the momentum going. They pressed us hard full court man the entire game. Aaliyah Authur and Shelby Rosprim had to get creative to inbound the ball against the Lady Bulldogs tough defense with Stella Maxwell and Lauren Carpenter stepping up to help Peyton Christensen get the ball down the court. Sienna McGuire was the shining star on defense coming up with multiple steals and rebounds. Even after losing a nail she came off the bench even tougher. Madison Hawes and Ariana Yorek worked hard under the basket to come up with crucial rebounds. We came up just short of the win last night with a score of 16-17 but I’m so proud of our effort. We continue each week to get better. Contributing to our score last night was Peyton, with her first 3 pointer of the season, Liana Stevens(4), Lauren Carpenter(4), Stella Maxwell(3), and Stella Granger(2).
7th A vs Burnet
32-34 Final score. What a nail biter of a game. If you haven’t seen these ladies in action yet, you’re truly missing out. The Lady Burnet Bulldogs led most of the game until the end of the 3rd quarter. We started off slow and muddled coming into the game. After a couple of timeouts and some hard encouragement, the Lady Vikings woke up. The MVP of the game hands down would go to Lila Rodriguez. She never stopped playing her best basketball. Scoring a total of 16 points for her team, Lila dominated the court tonight. Also, working very hard and having a great game was Lilah Culbreth. Lilah scored 17 of her team’s total points. Shy Krishnamurthy had some good turnovers and assisted her teammates adding to their score. Leya Sund played heck of defense and created many turnovers to help lead her team to the win. Annabelle Wheeler took away some good rebounds to push the Lady Vikings up the court to score. Aislin Munoz added to her team by her fierce defense and stopping the Lady Bulldogs from scoring. Kinsley Boyd had a few great assists for her team to pull off this win. Elena Presscott also came in forcing turnovers by never giving up on the ball, she worked hard on defense. Rain Nelson contributed to the big win tonight as well. Te’A Turner(injured) helped motivate her team when they were down. She was their biggest cheerleader tonight. The win tonight was one for the books. Memories were made and lessons were learned. We truly picked ourselves up tonight and never gave up on the fight. Again, the Lady Bulldogs led the entire game up until the very end. We were down by 5 with maybe 30 seconds left on the clock. The balls in our hands and Lilah Culbreth had an outstanding step back 3 pointer. Games tied, Bulldogs with the ball, they get it to half court and Shy Krishnamurthy comes up with a steal and dishes the ball to Lilah Culbreth for an easy layup. Everyone goes crazy, what a win! Credit to the Lady Bulldogs for such a great game and all of their hard work they put in tonight as well. As always, super proud of all these ladies tonight and the commitment and work they put in each and every day. Keep working hard and learning and you will do great things. Come out and watch these fierce Lady Vikings put on a show!
A VS BURNET
The 8th A Lady Vikings traveled to Burnet Thursday night to begin the second half of their basketball season. The girls competed hard but were not able to overcome the pressure supplied from Burnet's full court press. Unfortunately the Lady Vikings were unable to keep the basketball secure and committed numerous turnovers throughout the game. Despite the turnover bug, the Lady Vikings kept the game competitive throughout the first half only trailing by a few possessions after two quarters. Unfortunately in the 2nd half the ladies couldn’t overcome their combination of foul trouble and turnovers allowing the Lady Bulldogs to separate from the Lady Vikings. Undeterred, even though trailing big on the scoreboard, the ladies continued to play hard right up until the end. The girls continue onto week 2 of their three week road trip next week traveling to Lampasas to take on the Lady Badgers for the 3rd time this season. I’m really proud of this group because they really show up each day and put forth great effort throughout practices, weightroom, and agility sessions.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
