Focus on Student Attendance
We know that there are a wide variety of reasons that students are absent from school, from health concerns to transportation challenges. There are many people in our building prepared to help you if you or your student face challenges in getting to school regularly or on time. We promise to track attendance daily, to notice when your student is missing from class, communicate with you to understand why they were absent, and to identify barriers and supports available to overcome challenges you may face in helping your student attend school.
HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER
• Send your child to school unless they are truly sick, such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or a contagious rash.
• Avoid appointments and travel when school is in session.
• Set a regular bedtime and morning routine (including limiting how late your child may use any electronic devices) and finish homework and pack backpacks the night before.
• Have a back-up plan for getting to school in case something comes up (this could be alternative bus routes, roads, or a plan with family members, neighbors, or other parents).
• Communicate with the school about how we can work together to support your child’s attendance.

Roosevelt Elementary 2022-2023 Bell Schedule
Bell Schedule 2021-2022
8:20am-3:12pm
Arrival
The doors will open at 8:10am for the 2022-2023 school year. Due to a lack of adult supervision students will not be allowed in the building until 8:10am.
If students are dropped off prior to 8:10am they will be required to wait outside the building. (Note adult supervision will not be provided prior to 8:10am)
Students will enter the building, go to their locker, and then immediately to class. Staff will be present to greet students at the classroom door starting at 8:10am.
Our goal is to reduce the amount of time students are in the hallways congregating with other students.
Dismissal
This year no students will be allowed to walk home from Roosevelt. All students will need to ride the bus or be car pickup.
Students who are riding the bus will be dismissed at 3:10pm.
Car Line pickup will start at 3:10pm and will dismiss from the Commerce Rd. entrance/exit.
Note: All traffic will be required to turn right onto Commerce Rd. No left turn will be allowed to keep the flow of traffic moving.
February Lunch Menu
Minimum Online Deposit
The minimum Family Portal cafeteria account deposit has increased to $20.00 due to the increased fees the district is paying for each online deposit. Currently, the credit card processing company recognizes each student account as an individual item, thus making it necessary to deposit $20 into each account. You can get around this by making a deposit into one student account and transferring funds between your children at no charge. We are working with the processing company to see if this can be changed to a total family deposit minimum. We felt that raising the minimum deposit was a better option than passing the fees along to families. We will keep you informed of changes as they occur. Please direct all questions to the Nutrition Services Department at 248.865.6732. Thank you for your understanding.

February 6th, 2023
Dear Second Grade Families,
West Bloomfield Schools would like to invite you to consider our district-wide program for academically curious and imaginative students entering the third grade. This unique program is designed to meet the specific needs of the highly motivated learner in a rigorous multi-age class community. Students are placed into flexible groups of third, fourth, and fifth graders that vary with the curriculum being taught. Students have an opportunity to challenge each other in a collaborative and respectful environment. This program is only available in-person. Please visit our district web site for more information on program details.
Identifying students who meet the criteria for the Magnet program is a process. First, students are nominated by their parent between February 6th - February 28th. Then, families will be contacted on March 1st if their child meets district criteria to continue testing, which includes NWEA Math and Reading assessment scores. Students that qualify for further testing will take the CogAT screener assessment, writing assessment, Math assessment and receive a teacher recommendation. CogAT Testing occurs at the student’s current elementary school. Each building determines their specific assessment dates and times. Please note that families receive communication via email, prior to the CogAt testing window, letting them know of dates and times. The testing window will be between March 13th - March 24th, unless you hear differently from your building.
An overall Magnet Profile Score is calculated for each student based on weighting the following performance measures: NWEA MAP Reading and Math, Math Assessment, CogAT Screener, writing sample and Teacher Recommendation. These measures evaluate reasoning, problem solving, reading, mathematics, and academic characteristics. Students are ranked within their building based on their overall Magnet Profile Score. Parents of the selected students at each building are invited to a Magnet Parent Information meeting in April. Also, selected Magnet candidates, with parent permission, visit the Magnet Program in April to see the Magnet experience.
To nominate your student, please fill out this online nomination form between February 6th - February 28th. The entire selection process should be completed and notifications sent during the week of April 3rd, regarding your student’s potential placement in the Magnet Program. Please contact amy.quinn@wbsd.org with any questions.
Sincerely,
Scott Long
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction
