Counselor's Connection
Rising 9th Grade Transition
This week, Clark High School AVID conducted interviews for our rising 9th graders! We also are getting notification of Hobby Hawks who were accepted into the various magnet programs throughout the District. We wish to extend them and their families our heart-felt congratulations! Transition is always an exciting time for our students and we wish them great success in all of their endeavors.
Beitchman Educational Scholarship
In efforts to encourage our Hobby Hawks to pursue a college education, each year, Dr. Kevin Beitchman, D.D.S., M.S., awards a $500 scholarship to one of our eighth grade students. All interested eighth grade Hawks can find the Beitchman Scholarship Application link in the Hobby Counseling Department Schoology tile or they can simply click on the provided link. Please feel free to encourage your eighth grade Hawks to apply!
Regulation Stations
On Monday, February 19, the Hobby Counseling Team conducted professional development on the use of Regulation Stations in the classrooms. The purpose of Regulation Stations is to create an inviting self-regulation space in the classroom that allows students time to recognize and manage their emotions and in doing so, normalize self-regulation and empower students to take self-regulation into their own hands. The use of Regulation Stations also promotes the use of tools and healthy coping strategies to manage emotions so learning can occur.
This week, we want to brag about and give kudos to Ms. Madrigal, who set up a Spanish-language Regulation Station in her classroom. Thank you to Ms. Madrigal for sharing her photos and for supporting this initiative for the benefit of our students!
6th Grade Guidance
Friday, March 8, we will conclude our personal health and safety lessons with 6th grade Guidance classes. We will conduct our classes during 6th grade Social Studies periods. As always, we greatly look forward to visiting with our Hobby Hawks!
Mental Health Matters!
