A Message from Dr. Frischkorn
As we prepare to start the 4th week of school I would like to give everyone a brief update on what their children have been doing in class.
First and foremost, our Mayfield Bobcats have been working with one another to build positive learning communities in all of their classes. Our teachers have focused on building strong relationships with the students and providing the students opportunities to build relationships with their classmates. Our Bobcat Block, which occurs daily from 7:20 to 7:47 AM, has been a key part to this process. During the Bobcat Block our teachers facilitate group discussions with their classes and help them get prepared for the day ahead.
Second, every student has already completed the iReady online diagnostic exam for both reading and math. The information from these assessments is valuable and helps the teacher deliver personalized instruction for each student within the classroom.
Third, we have rolled out computers to every students in every classroom. The students keep their individually assigned computer with them all day and the school has provided the students with a protective carrying case. At the end of the day, the students return the laptop to the charging cart where the computer is charged and is ready for them when they return.
Finally, the students have adapted well to the "A Day/B Day" schedule. Our students have done an awesome job at learning their schedules and traveling from class to class. This is just one of the ways that your child is being provided with opportunities to experience independence while at Mayfield and become prepared for Metz, Osbourn and beyond.
Thanks!

Safety Updates
We have conducted 3 fire drills since the start of the school year. Our students have done a great job at following their teacher's directions and exiting the building in a quick and orderly fashion. We will have 1 more fire drill this upcoming week and then we will start having one fire drill a month starting in October.

September is Attendance Awareness Month
School attendance is essential to academic success. Research shows that missing as little as two days every month, or ten percent of the school year can have a significant impact on students. Missing school can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing courses and ultimately, teens dropping out of high school. In Virginia, missing ten percent of the school year is considered chronic absenteeism. Chronic absenteeism includes excused and unexcused absences. If you want more information regarding attendance, please check out the Attendance Works web page at the following link: https://www.attendanceworks.org/
Attend today, achieve tomorrow!
