Dear Cardinal Family,
We are all learning and even relearning lessons this week.
Our administrative team covers lunch duty every day. It's certainly not a new concept, but the length of time (two hours) and multiple locations (to ensure six feet of distancing) are new for us.
During fourth period, I get to cover our new outdoor space, the tent. It is a pretty popular option. Kids like getting fresh air and, when it's warm and sunny, they're able to spread out even more to the benches and sidewalks. My lesson this week was that spring in Ohio is predictable only in its unpredictability. When the temperature drops below 40 degrees, the tent is a lonely place to be. I found myself imagining where we could add a tent fireplace..., though I'm pretty sure that isn't happening.
During fifth period, I am privileged to supervise the Cards Center, a space reserved for juniors and seniors. I spend most of my time in conversation with students while they eat. I've learned some things I will never be able to unlearn. (Senior tag? I feel like every parent as my concerns for the potential dangers of this annual and definitely not school-sponsored activity are brushed aside like crumbs on the lunch table.) Mostly, though, I get to know and enjoy building relationships with these young adults. The stories about their futures, their dreams, their current experiences, and their ideas for how to make things better here at TWHS all remind me how much I've missed having a school full of students.
I hope your child's experience has been positive since we've returned to all in. It's definitely not perfect, but I'm not sure it ever was.
Thanks for trusting us.
Have a great weekend. Go Cards!
Pete Scully
Principal

**ACADEMIC UPDATES**
There are three general behavior expectations at Thomas Worthington: build Relationships, show Respect, and be Responsible.
We define building Relationships as “to cultivate belonging”. From our morning greeting as each student enters the building to each classroom culture, we strive to create an environment that is so welcoming that all are inspired to learn.
We define show Respect as “use appropriate language”. We work towards being mindful of the words we speak and the immense power they have on our self and others.
We define be Responsible as “attend and being on time”. We certainly extend grace when life comes at us fast and heavy, but we are intentional about the importance of showing up, being on time, and being present for ourselves and others.

State-Required End-Of-Course Assessments for the Week of April 19-23
The week of April 19 - 23, Thomas Worthington High School will administer state-required end-of-course assessments to all students enrolled in Math I, Math II, U.S. History, U.S. Government, English Language Arts II (English 10), and Biology.
In order to provide focused time and attention to students who are testing, we will be on an altered bell schedule with a late start during this week. Students enrolled in tested subjects are required to report to school at their regular time of 7:45 a.m. for testing; we will use a delayed start of school for any student who is not testing. Lunch will be served following the testing period, and classes will begin at 12:10 p.m. If your child is testing on at least one of these days, test-specific information will be shared with students and their families in a few weeks.
Buses will run their regular morning routes for students involved in testing and a second route three hours later for non-testers. All buses will run on a regular schedule for dismissal.
Linworth, Academy, Rockbridge, and full-day DACC students will take their tests at their respective schools. Half-day DACC and TWHS students will take their tests at Thomas Worthington High School.
TESTING BELL SCHEDULE
Testing 7:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Lunch 11:05 a.m. - 12:05 p.m.
Classes 12:10 p.m. - 3:05 p.m.

Attention 11th Grade Parents/Guardian: Important Immunization Information for Senior Year
Ohio Law (ORC 3313.671) now requires all 12th grade students to receive two (2) doses of the Meningococcal vaccine. If the first dose was given after the 16th birthday, only one dose is required. Meningococcal vaccine helps protect against meningitis, a bacterial infection that affects the spinal fluid and lining of the brain.
Your child may have already had these immunizations. Please check with your child’s doctor to determine if they have been completed. If they have not, immunizations may be obtained from your doctor, at the health department, or at any urgent care center. Please have your child drop off the updated record in the TWHS Health Office as soon as possible, or it can be faxed directly to TWHS (Fax 614-450-6393). The required immunizations (or a valid exemption) must be obtained prior to the start of the senior year. Ohio law allows schools to exclude students who do not have the appropriate documentation on file.
Please go to Ohio Department of Health's website or contact Julie Frank, TWHS School Nurse, at jfrank@wscloud.org if you have questions. BEAT THE SUMMER RUSH AND HAVE YOUR CHILD IMMUNIZED NOW!
Before and After School Guidelines for TWHS Students
