Third and Fourth
Week of March 27
THANK YOU!!!
You all deserve a sweet reward for helping this last Saturday. I was especially happy to see students helping out. It is so gratifying to know that when we call out for help, He hears us and then whispers in your ears.
Religion
Lent is coming to a close and then we celebrate the happiest time of all. The Resurrection of Our Lord.
Every Monday we have been praying the rosary in both languages and the children are taking turns leading. Sometimes boys lead and sometimes the girls and we also take turns leading in both languages.
How is that 'Rice' bowl coming along? Is your child learning to set aside a few coins to help feed children with their families around the world?
We continue with listening and trying to understand the Readings for the Thursday school masses. Unfortunately we cannot have a school mass on Holy Thursday. But please take your child to witness the washing of feet by your priest where you are registered parishioners or here at Holy Rosary.
Language Arts
Spelling continues every other week with Spanish or English and either 3rd or 4th. The children will also be expected to at least be able to read the words in cursive and at least practice writing in cursive. It will not be expected for the final test but it can only get better with practice.
We are writing more and trying harder to improve our writing. The children are reminded that Writing takes three basic things into account: spelling correctly, use of punctuation marks, and correct grammar. Children are able to self correct so please encourage this.
If you can say it, you can write it.
If you can write it, you can read it.
If you can read it, you can say even more.
4th Grade is finishing up with Pay It Forward and will make an album of characters. Maybe they can come up with an idea that can change the world.
3rd Grade finished with Island of the Blue Dolphins and have made a mobile of characters. They chose 5 characters from the book and have written a short description of each one.
Math
We move forward with Conversions and patterns and tessellations. Please, please, don't stop with those flash cards. The children can always brush up on facts - whether it is in addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.
Word / Story problems are skills children can also focus on. If your child has difficulty with reading then pose a few problems or read the problem out loud and ask how the problem can be solved.
Social Studies
4th Grade will continue the whole year focused on the state of Washington and how it is affected from the states around it or how it affects the other states.
3rd Grade will continue with the textbook and try to complete it.
