First Quarter in 2nd Grade
All the Happenings of our First Nine Weeks
Wowee Time Flies!
This first quarter has flown by! We have already worked on and learned so much! From telling time to reading thermometers; from describing characters and setting in a story to identifying the main idea of a text; from deserts to forest we have traveled a lot with our minds this quarter. Take a look at the pictures that celebrate some of our highlights of these past few weeks.
Fire safety day
We had some students get the opportunity to experience how the firefighters help in medical emergencies.
Making smores
During our unit where we read Henry and Mudge we talked a lot about camping. We got to make paper smores and cook them in our classroom "campfire."
Flashlight reading
As a behavior reward for being safe, respectful, and responsible in our classroom we got to spend some time doing flashlight reading.
Read to self
Students have been working on building up their reading stamina (how long they can read a book at one time). We've worked out way up to 15 minutes!
Expert groups
Students became the experts on a specific animal group and shared what they learned with the class.
Word work
Students playing a game to practice reading sight words fluently.
