Important Information for You!
Early Release PD
This Wednesday is the second of our Early Release Days for the year. Students will be dismissed two hours early. Certified staff will be working at Thomson with PD from 1:45-4:45 p.m.
Our Title I Paras, SE Paras, and Success Coordinator will have PD from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the Middle School Community Room. You should have all received an agenda from Mrs. Halabicky last week. Parapros and Christine should plan to leave at 1:15 p.m. to make it to the Middle School on time.
Since all of our support staff will be leaving prior to dismissal, I would appreciate all staff helping with dismissal. If one of our teachers from the north wing and one from the DK wing could come down to the gym to help at parent pick up it would be greatly appreciated.
Cool to Care Campaign
Thank you so much for all of your support! We brought in 4,227 items! I am so proud of our little school and look forward to celebrating with our kids.
Santa's Secret Shop
As I shared earlier, our PTO will be doing a Santa's Secret Shop December 9th, 10th, and 11th. Just like last year, on December 11th any student who did not bring in money will be allowed to 'shop' with monies provided by the PTO and the company we work with to provide Santa's Secret Shop. We will be following the shopping schedule your received last week, but please do not send students down. Someone will come to your classroom to get the students who have money once we are ready for them.
MEMSPA Follow-up
I had an amazing three days of learning while at MEMSPA and I am looking forward to sharing with you. Two of our key note speakers were Dr. Joe Sanfellipo and Dr. Marcia Tate. Dr. Sanfellipo, 'The Walking Superintendent', shared the power of building relationships through telling your story. Dr. Tate talked about the 20 strategies that every educator should be using and ten strategies that keep people living beyond 80. Both presentations were extremely powerful and thought provoking. On Wednesday, I plan to share items I learned from Dr. Tate. This was actually the second time I have had an opportunity to listen to her speak and the things that she shared just make sense. I also attended a third keynote on change and sessions on SEL, time management, the whole child, and school improvement. Over the next couple months, I will share what I learned and hope that it helps and/or inspires you.
Additionally, the time spent with my fellow colleagues was priceless. Principals are not different than teachers, when we get together most of our time is spent talking about school, teaching, and learning. While it is hard to be gone for three days, I value this time. Thank you for being an amazing staff and carrying on while I was gone. I was in contact with Kay Forys a few different times and she had so many positive things to say about you. While I already knew everything she was saying, I was extremely proud of and for you. Thank you again!
Look What One of Your Fellow Educators Did
Teachers are always looking for and doing amazing things to help their students learn or overcome learning obstacles. We all know 'hitting' them over the head with the same information in the same way doesn't work. Below is a video that one of our own Davison teachers, Mr. Brad Fuson, created on our last snow day and posted to You Tube to help his students learn their multiplication by 8's. Take a look... Also, think about how you can share creative ideas with each other.
Quotes Worth Reading
"Today I shall behave as if this is the day I will be remembered."
-Dr. Seuss
If today is the day people would remember you by, what would they remember? Would it change how you acted, what you said, or how you responded?
