Chest Pass
When throwing a chest pass, the players should strive to throw it to the receiver's chest level. Passes that go low to high or high to low are difficult to catch.
Bounce Pass
Dribbling
The dribble is an act by which a player repetitively bounces the ball off the floor. Dribbling can be in place as well as while moving.
- Dribbling starts with proper hand and arm motion, as well as body position
- Push the ball downwards with fingers spread, using specifically fingertips, not palms
- Dribble with your head up and continuously look around to pass effectively to a teammate
- The feet should be well spaced, one foot slightly in advance of the other, knees slightly bent and the trunk also bent forward at the waist
Shooting
The B stand for balance, the E for eyes, the second E for elbows, and the F for follow-through. To have good balance it is important to have you feet about shoulder width apart. Your eyes should always be focused on a target, and your elbows should be in line. Finally follow through means it should be done through the fingertips and elbows.
Below are examples of the correct stance:
- Feet and Head locked into shot
- Ten toes pointing at the rim
- Right foot slightly forward
- Knees flexed and shoulder width or more apart
- Slight bend at hip
- Head over feet
- Back straight
Hand Position
- Ball centred in middle of hand
- Index finger pointing at the valve and basket
- Line from thumb to pinkie finger shown
- Triangle towards the target established
- Fingers spread as wide as possible
Hand Position
- Ball centred in middle of hand
- Line from thumb to pinkie finger shown
- Triangle towards the target established
- Fingers spread as wide as possible
- Ball sitting on upper part of palm and pads of fingers
Elbow Position
- Elbow L-Shape
- Wrist with wrinkle appearing
- Ball sitting on upper part of palm and pads of fingers
- Index finger pointing straight at the target
Lay Up
When completing a lay-up dribble toward the basket and move slightly to one side of the hoop to create the correct angle. If you're on the right side, dribble right-handed, pick the ball up on your right foot (half step) as you progress to the basket and
then step with your left foot (inside foot) and explode toward the basket shooting with your right hand. As you raise your right hand, your right knee should also elevate and lift toward the basket. Pretend there is a string attached to your right hand and
your right knee. Reverse this form if shooting from the left side. It is best to go directly toward the basket, with your head up and eyes focused on the backboard. Utilise the top corner of the backboard to ensure you make your shot.
- Right Hand Lay Up - Shoot the ball off the left foot, right knee up. Jump off the inside foot
- Left Hand Lay Up Shoot the ball off the right foot, left knee up. Jump off the inside foot
- Position of Ball Keep it under your chin and shoot over hand until you perfect your technique
- Hands Two hands on the ball to the height of jump. Non-shooting arm to protect shot
