A MESSAGE FROM MRS. MOLITOR
The story for this month is: Be You! By Peter H. Reynolds
Be curious...
Be adventurous...
Be brave...
BE YOU!
Discover a joyful reminder of the ways that every child is unique and special, from the beloved creator of The Dot, Happy Dreamer, and New York Times bestseller, The Word Collector. Here, Reynolds reminds readers to "be your own work of art." To be patient, persistent, and true. Because there is one, and only one, YOU.
I hope you enjoy it, and always remember to :
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Jennifer Molitor
Glendale Elementary School Principal
C.A.R.E.S
Students at Glendale will be recognized for showing the CARES skills through out the school year. Adults can recognize students who are doing an excellent job demonstrating: Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy or Self control. Students who are recognized will be honored with a certificate, have their names announced at an All School Meeting, will be showcased in the Glendale monthly newsletter and will get to enjoy a cinnamon roll breakfast with Mrs. Molitor & the other recipients during morning meeting.
Congratulations to all of the students that received this award for March! The next C.A.R.E.S. breakfast will be Friday, May 7th.
LUNCH BALANCES
Please be sure to check your child(ren)'s School Cafe balances before the end of the school year. Any existing balances will transfer over to next year's accounts. Any negative balances will need to be paid.
*Please note: If your student(s) has a negative account balance, they will not be eligible to receive seconds of the entree.
We were fortunate to have state-funded lunches provided to us this year, however, families will once again be responsible for purchasing meals next year. If this is a hardship for your family & you need assistance, you may apply for the Free/Reduced Lunch program by filling out a form that can be found on the Parent Page of the district website under the School Cafe Logo.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Kitchen Manager, Mike Autenrieth, at 952.226.0208 or the office at 952.226.0200.
DRESS CODE
The weather is getting warmer and with that comes wardrobe style changes! We thought it would be a great time to send a friendly reminder about our dress code and what's appropriate to wear to school. This can also be found on our Glendale website in the Student Handbook.
A dress code policy is in place to encourage students to be dressed appropriately for school activities and in keeping with community standards. This is a joint responsibility of the student and the student’s parent(s) or guardian(s).
Appropriate clothing includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1) Clothing appropriate for the weather.
2) Clothing that does not create a health or safety hazard.
3) Clothing appropriate for the activity (i.e., physical education or the classroom).
Inappropriate clothing includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1) “Short shorts,” skimpy tank tops, tops that expose the midriff, and other clothing that is not in keeping with community standards.
2) Clothing bearing a message that is lewd, vulgar, or obscene.
3) Apparel promoting products or activities that are illegal for use by minors.
4) Objectionable emblems, badges, symbols, signs, words, objects or pictures on clothing or jewelry communicating a message that is racist, sexist, or otherwise derogatory to a protected minority group, evidences gang membership or affiliation, or approves, advances, or provokes any form of religious, racial, or sexual harassment and/or violence against other individuals as defined in policy 413. 5.
5) Any apparel or footwear that would damage school property.
6) Hats are not allowed in the building except with the approval of the building principal (i.e., student undergoing chemotherapy; medical situations).
7) Any item of apparel deemed disruptive to the educational process by an administrator.
Students who are in violation of this policy will be asked to change out of the offensive clothing. Other options may include sending the student home, wearing PE clothes, or other disciplinary actions. If your student questions appropriateness of clothing, they should check in at the office with a principal or counselor before the start of the school day.
More information can be found in School Board policy 504, Student Dress and Appearance.
SAFETY UPDATES
PLSAS Families,
Just a friendly reminder about the COVID-19 safety topic regarding Spring Break travel:
TRAVEL GUIDELINES
As families begin to make plans for Spring Break, please keep in mind that PLSAS will be following the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) guidelines for travel.
· The CDC recommends postponing any nonessential travel.
· Those who travel domestically are encouraged to obtain a viral test 3-5 days after travel and to reduce non-essential activities for 7 days, even if a COVID-19 test is negative.
· Those who choose not to test are encouraged to reduce non-essential activities for 10 days.
· Those who travel internationally on a cruise or to a level-4 risk country will be required to quarantine. If a student obtains a viral test 3-5 days after travel and the test is negative, the student will quarantine 7 days. If the student is not tested, the student will quarantine 10 days.
· We ask that you visit the CDC’s website for the most up-to-date travel guidelines.
Sincerely,
Joe Kuboushek

Why statewide testing?
Minnesota values its educational system and the professionalism of its educators. Minnesota educators created the academic standards which are rigorous and prepare our students for career and college. The statewide assessments are how we as a state measure that curriculum and daily instruction in our schools are being aligned to the academics standards, ensuring all students are being provided an equitable education. Statewide assessment results are just one tool to monitor that we are providing our children with the education that will ensure a strong workforce and knowledgeable citizens (from the Minnesota Department of Education).
Please click below to read more information about statewide testing and access the parent/guardian opt out form. This form must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the main office.

MDH COVID 19 DECISION TREE
This document was developed by the Minnesota Department of Health for Schools, Youth & Child Care Programs to use as a guide for Covid-19 exposure & decision processes. We encourage you to reference it to better understand the protocols we're following.
Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.

COVID-19 INFORMATION
* complete the COVID-19 Student Daily Return to School Checklist each morning before school
* keep your child(ren) home if ANYONE in your household is waiting on COVID-19 test results
* call your child’s school if your student(s) or ANYONE in your household is diagnosed with COVID-19
Doing this will allow us to continue to look at our local district data and not have to rely solely on Scott County COVID-19 case rates when determining learning models.
