LiNK Nomad Visit - Team Does NOT Meet Today
Tuesday, December 1
Questions to Guide Planning
- What should ALL learners know, understand, and/or be able to do as a result of this lesson? WHY should they know, understand, or be able to do this?
- What is enduring knowledge for all? What are the "have to knows" of this lesson? WHY do they need to know this?
- What do learners need to know to accomplish this objective? What background knowledge do you need to access or provide?
- What is your vision of success? What are learners doing if/when they learn this? What does successful reaching of the objective look like and sound like?
- What are the best vehicles for learners to attain the objective and practice the concepts/skills? What provisions have you planned for learners with special needs? (Direct instruction? Guided practice? Team learning? Individual task?) What opportunities for enrichment will you provide for advanced learners? These should be meaningful, engaging, and help learners to cement understandings!
- How will learners be assessed? How will they know and you know that they have learned - throughout the lesson and after you have taught the concept/skill? This is evidence of learning!
- How will assessment results guide future instruction? How will you use what you know of learner performance to plan the next lesson?

Learning Walks
A Learning Walk is a brief classroom visit that provides teachers opportunities to reflect on learning and teaching strategies, student interaction with the content, and student engagement.
Norms
- Let the teacher you are observing know you would like to come
- 10-15 minute observation
- Be present in the observation - technology use should be for the learning walk itself
- Focus on your Educator Goal
- Express appreciation to the teacher observed
Personal Goals
Our goal is, as ever, growth as educators. We have already set our goals in one of the domains of the Learning Framework (Learning Environment, Lesson Design, Assessment). The purpose of doing learning walks is that we are able to observe teachers who are strong in the area in which we hope to grow.
Today, we will practice a learning walk in a Spanish classroom.
Our goal for today is to practice descriptive feedback and reflection.
During the Walk:
- Take notes about what you see in your area of growth. These are not evaluative, but merely notes about what you see taking place.
- Take notes about what you will take back to your classroom.
After the Walk:
- We will reflect on what we observed and what we plan to take back to our classroom.
- We will discuss the learning walk itself - what we felt went well and what could be done differently.
- We will express appreciation to the educator.
- We will make a plan to go on an additional learning walk, which we may do independently or with another team member. If this must be done during team time, please let Sam know.
