Good afternoon Union Hill Families,
Union Hill Elementary has so much to be thankful for during the month of February! Dr. Sarah Willmore is a first year teacher in Round Rock ISD! She currently serves as our FCC teacher, but has made an incredible impact in her first year on campus. She has worked hard to establish a high-quality self-contained special education classroom. Dr. Willmore does an amazing job of highlighting her team members' strengths and fully supports them in the daily challenges. She has assisted our campus by mentoring other teachers and providing feedback on both behavioral and instructional strategies throughout our campus. She collaboratively works with students, parents, administration, health providers, and community programs to ensure students and their families have the best educational experience. Dr. Willmore partnered with students from University of Austin to support our campus for Monster Mash. She continues to push do ground breaking work with her students and the community by partnering with Starbucks to expose her students to social skill opportunities by delivering coffee to staff. Dr. Willmore serves as a campus leader on the leadership committee and works collaboratively within our school on solution oriented outcomes that are best for all stakeholders. She serves on multiple committees and invests in the future success of Union Hill!
Mrs. Beunca Johnson is an incredibly talented young lady who helps support our district initiative of Sense of Belonging as she positively engages with all students and staff daily. She has a background in occupational therapy, which has helped her tremendously in her role as a behavioral specialist on campus. She has an incredible knowledge of the connection between the body and social-emotional regulation. She works tirelessly with our most challenging students to de-escalate their emotions in order to be successful within the classroom setting. Mrs. Johnson's priceless skill set allows our classrooms to function at a higher-level to ensure our students have access to a positive school climate and environment. Mrs. Johnson displays the Continous Growth Mindset as she has a great natural ability to analyze instructional content and the connection to behavioral episodes. Mrs. Johnson is a safe and reliable adult for many of our children whether it be behavioral or academic. She has been seen providing instructional support in the classroom, hallways, or wherever a student feels comfortable completing their work during a behavioral episode. Mrs. Johnson's daily efforts have positively impacted our campus in such a short time and will continue to do so in the future!
At Union Hill we also like to go the extra mile and celebrate our new first year teachers as well! Mrs. Rosas is our "Rookie Teacher of the Year" candidate to represent Union Hill. She has been an incredible addition to our phenomenal staff! She stepped up the week school started and stepped into the role of a kindergarten dual language teacher! She has such an incredible heart for children and helping others! She goes above and beyond to prepare high-quality lessons to provide our young kindergarten scholars the best learning opportunities! Mrs. Rosas brings a positive energy to our campus and it can be seen throughout her classroom and those she interacts with daily. Mrs. Rosas has an incredibly bright future and we are forever grateful that she has chosen to be a teacher at Union Hill this year and years to come! The staff at Union Hill and within Round Rock ISD all share similar thoughts, that one would not be able to identify that she is a first year teacher. She displays such an incredible veteran-like skill set within her class with her students. Thank you Mrs. Rosas for all of your hard work and dedication!
On Tuesday, February 20th one of our school buses was hit in the neighborhood just a block from our school. Thankfully all students, bus driver, and all of the individuals in the car were not physically harmed. We want to extend a huge token of gratitude to Ms. Kling, our school nurse and our amazing counselors Mrs. Valentin and Mrs. McElveen for rushing to the scene to check on the social-emotional well-being of our students and their physical health. We would also like to thank your area superintendent Dr. Ephlin for coming to support all students and staff involved in the incident. A huge shout out to Ms. Anna, our cafeteria manager and her staff extended breakfast time to ensure our children were still able to get a great breakfast before a day of learning! Union Hill is also grateful for the men and women of Round Rock ISD police department and Round Rock PD for handling the incident with the utmost care. I am proud of our school community for pulling together to support our children during this unfortunate time. Round Rock ISD is a great place to be!
Car Riders
On the first day of school, signs will be provided to students for parents to use for car riders and parent walk-up dismissal. Because families may not have signs on the first day of school, we encourage parents to use this template or create something similar to assist the student’s first day of dismissal. Families will display their dismissal sign in a visible location when entering the dismissal lane. Please use bold markers to write students' names. Staff will help students into the car. After 3:15, families must drive to the front of the school, park and sign their student out inside the front office
