Schnell School Scoop
November 7, 2022 - November 13, 2022
Dear Schnell Families,
I can't believe we are already in November. This 2022 year is surely going by quickly, and enjoying every moment is essential. It was nice to have some rain, which is highly needed for our county, and to bring our water level up hopefully.
I hope you are enjoying this new format of our weekly newsletter, intending to update you with events, information, and the great things we are doing at Schnell.
We recently had a great Trunk or Treat. From the bottom of my heart, I thank our fantastic parents for making this event fun for our children and community by making their vehicle and boat available to pass out candies, bring goats, take pictures, cook hot dogs and pupusas, and have great music. I also thank all the parents and children attending this event. Go, Schnell Parents!!! You are amazing!!!!
Have a Wonderful Week!!!
Your Principal,
John Baker

A big round of applause goes to our cross country runners for completing a wonderful season! And, much appreciation to Mrs. Upton and Coach Hammer for coaching this year's team. It was a great event seeing our students running to the best of their ability to the finishing line during the championships. Congratulations to all of our runners. Your determination and efforts are impressive.

Library News
Attention: Bobcat Readers
The Scholastic Book Fair will be here November 14 - November 18, during our minimum day/parent teacher conference week.
Worried about sending cash with your child for Book Fair? Set up an E-Wallet. Go to www.scholastic.com/bf/schnellelementary, create an account for your child and load it like a gift card. The librarian will have access to the account for any purchase to be paid for. Most students will get to do a Book Fair Preview, a non shopping day, but a day for everyone to check things out and write a wish list. Watch your child's backpack for their wish list to see what they like best.

Miss Brittany's Counseling Corner!
Did you know there are certain foods that can help combat symptoms of depression? That’s right! A healthy diet and lifestyle can help increase mood and motivation for those who feel depressed. The winter months are coming which means a reduced level of sunlight which can also add to depressive feelings. Here are some superfoods that can help with depression:
Dark chocolate. Yes, you read that right! New studies prove that consuming dark chocolate is linked to reduced symptoms of clinical depression because dark chocolate triggers a secretion of serotonin in the brain which makes us feel happier. Also the antioxidants in dark chocolate reduce inflammation which also reduces depressive symptoms.
Fermented foods like kimchi and yogurt are good for gut biomes and gut health to combat the microbiomes that influence depression.
Leafy greens like spinach, lettuce and swiss chard. These contain folate which also helps gut biomes, promotes a healthy digestion as well as cardiovascular health.
Oysters. Yep, consumption of oysters has been linked with reduced levels of depression because they contain B and D vitamins, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids which are linked to mental wellbeing.
Eggs with yolk! Eating whole eggs has been proven to have a positive influence on mental health and mood. They contain tryptophan that increases serotonin similarly to how dark chocolate does!
Blueberries have high levels of antioxidants and can protect your body from free radicals that damage cells and improve brain function and memory. They have mood stabilizing effects that can help regulate emotions.
Beans and lentils. These also contain tryptophan and are high in magnesium which helps the brain secrete serotonin. They are also similar to fermented foods in that they promote good gut health.
Water is also beneficial in helping combat depression (and even anxiety). Do you need more water in your daily routine?
Happy eating!
♥️Miss Brittany
Hammer Headlines
We recently finished our last week of football skills. Primary students used small nerf footballs and practiced throwing to a partner and catching. We will continue to do the skillastic workouts, parachute, fishy fishy, red light green light, and duck duck goose.
Third to fifth grade students are catching and throwing a choice of either foam nerf football, junior football, or intermediate football. Each football has a different weight and size. I leave it up to each student pair to decide their level of challenge. Along with the skillastic workouts students are also playing bulldog, capture the flag, and flag football for their final activity.
