Articles of Confederation
By Danielle Bynum
Weaknesses:
The national government couldn't enforce laws and didn't have any power to tax. Also they needed nine out of thirteen states to pass a law and needed all thirteen states to amend a law. The government did not have an executive or judicial branch do there were no checks and balances.
Strengths:
The U.S had a unified army for the states set up by the legislature. In the legislature each state had one vote. The government was able to build and control an army and had the ability to deal with other countries.
The designers of the Articles of Confederation made a weak central government because they wanted theirs to be unlike what they had with the British government. They didn't want an oppressive government where there was no say in what was going on in the country.
