FACILITY MEETING.......If you missed it, here's a recap from Dr. Baron Davis:
In order to be a PREMIER district, we must set “Premier” facility goals. Just as we have an
innovation mindset for our students, the district recognizes that our classrooms must nurture an environment that is student centered, supports active learning, and cultivates project based learning experiences.
Mr. Will Anderson shared what Future Ready Schools should include. These characteristics are:
Safe and secure
Sustainable
Flexible
Connected
Innovative
Collaborative
Reflective of health and wellness
Cost effective
Did you know that there are 28,138 students in district? Over 41 school sites, we also have 60 portables used as classrooms throughout the district. During the meeting, a density map was shared that showed concentration of students in specific areas. Right now, there is a high concentration of the population around Summit, Lake Carolina, and Decker. This density map also showed future growth and you may not be surprised to learn that the district has already secured land in multiple areas of the district for future school sites.
Projected growth in a recent article published in the state newspaper predicts 1 million people will be living in Richland County by 2035. This is an increase of 290,000 more ppl in Richland County. In fact, the district expects that by 2050 we will have over 50,000 students in our district!
As the district looks ahead for facility needs and additions, several considerations are given to the following:
- Learning spaces
- Supports collaboration Multipurpose room
- Supports projects Easy visibility - transparent walls and option to extend classroom to support whole child
- ReImagine the media center so that the space allows for collaboration
Maintenance will require us to repair and replace and upgrade roofs, HVAC and Electrical systems,
Flooring and Painting, Kitchens, and Lighting. This maintenance over time must also include upgrades to technology that must support Network infrastructure, Server and data storage, telephone system upgrades, and 1:1 student devices. Our district's updates and maintenance must also include plans to maintain the safety and security of each building. Did you know this includes the camera system, car access system, LobbyGuard, and a secure vestibule lobby at each school? And, the meeting didn't leave off the district's goals of enhancing athletic fields, playgrounds, and arts spaces to continue to develop the whole child.
The meeting was of high interest to those that were in attendance. We all should be full of pride for the facilities our district maintains - and look ahead at the district's plans to support and renovate existing spaces to become FUTURE SCHOOLS READY!
Let's support our Garden Buddies!
Mrs. Helzer’s “kindergardeners” and Mrs. Perez’s class have teamed up to be garden buddies. The older students shared their plant knowledge with the kindergartners before going out to plant. The garden buddies worked together to cut, clean and sort the chives. We would like to offer some fresh garlic chives and mint for a recommended donation of $1.00. The donations will go towards replenishing plants and vegetables in the garden. Some chives are ready to be picked up before the holidays! Ask Lindsey Perez or Cathy Ingle if you are interested in purchasing these garden fresh chives or mint!
COPIER Reminders
Recommendations:
Please do not fill the paper trays all the way to the top, as this causes the first few sheets to get caught on the edges.
Please do not slam or kick drawers on the machine closed, as this causes broken parts.
Do not yank the paper that is jammed in the machine - follow the step by step directions on the machine. This causes paper to be ripped and pieces to be stuck in places we can not possibly reach.
Remember these machines cost the school money each year and we need your cooperation to help maintain them.
