Time to Revamp Your Behavior System?
You may have been using the same system for monitoring and either encouraging positive and/or discouraging negative behaviors all year, or longer. How is it working? Does it work well for the students who would work hard and follow rules regardless, but not so well for those who are most challenging? You might want to rethink your system. Take a look at the link below for an idea.

Technology Tuesday
Flipgrid
Flipgrid is a website/app where students record a quick video in response to a prompt. This is a quick, fun way to assess your students and give them a different 'voice' in class! Students can view and comment on each other's videos. Flipgrid can be used with laptops, iPads, and cell phones. It's extremely easy to create and share with your students - some of you are already using it! Check out Flipgrid now!

Classroom Connections
1st Grade Happenings
Our first-grade friends have been very busy learning over the past few months! Here are a few of the things that they have been focusing on.
In Making Meaning, students have been using wondering to help them to understand a variety of texts. During IDR, they are practicing wondering as they read independently and ask each other questions about their books.
In writing, students have been exploring nonfiction by writing nonfiction about themselves, the class, a place in the school, their partners, and favorite subjects. They have been gathering information for their own nonfiction writing by conducting interviews and examining objects. More specifically, they have been learning how to use question marks, write opening and closing sentences, and continue to tell more in their writing. They have been enjoying sharing their writing with the class from the Author’s Chair.
In math, first-grade students have been working on a variety of concepts. They have been learning how to compare quantities and have begun using the symbols for greater than and less than. They will soon begin adding and subtracting tens and ones using their developing understanding of place value. They have also been working on solving word problems
