Friday's @ Northeast
Friday's @ Northeast is a program offered by Northeast Community College giving students the opportunity to take classes at Northeast every Friday during the school year. The classes will be taught at NECC by NECC instructors. The classes are being offered at the reduced dual credit tuition rate of $69/credit hour. Scholarships are also available through the NPS Foundation and students showing financial need can apply for the ACE scholarship. Students interested need to see their counselor ASAP and complete a Norfolk Senior High Application. Students must be on track for graduation and have a good attendance record. Please contact the NHS counseling center with questions. Please see the flyer below for the classes offered this spring. Deadline to register for the spring classes is December 9th.
Most Valuable Student Scholarship
The Elks National Foundation awards 500 4-year scholarships each year for the Most Valuable Student Award. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. To be eligible:
- Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.
- Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
- College students are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
- Male and female students compete separately.
Nebraska Wesleyan University Doing the Arts Event and Scholarship
This show offers high school seniors the opportunity to earn a scholarship and exhibit their work in Elder Gallery on NWU's campus. The exhibition will culminate with a reception and award ceremony on Tuesday, January 17th from 6-8:30 pm.
The 2 best in show honorees will be offered a $10,000 ($2,500 per year) scholarship to study art at NWU. Selected participants accepted into the show and enroll at NWU to study art will receive a $4,000 ($1,000 per year) art talent scholarship.
Students can enter the competition by visiting nebrwesleyan.edu/RSVP-arts to complete these 3 steps:
- Apply for admission to Nebraska Wesleyan
- RSVP for the Doing the Arts Event
- Submit artwork by December 1st.
RLOP
The Rural Law Opportunities Program (RLOP) is a dynamic partnership between Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska College of Law designed to recruit students from rural areas and train them to become lawyers that will return and practice in their communities. Similar to the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP), RLOP aims to ensure rural areas of Nebraska have access to legal representation while encouraging students from those areas to pursue legal studies in order to return to their communities to meet the demand for attorneys.
Participants in the program receive their bachelor’s degrees at WSC and are then guaranteed admittance into the Nebraska College of Law.

Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarship
This scholarship is for students wanting to study at the prestigious Peter Kiewitt Institute. Students interested in studying in either the College of Engineering or the College of Information Science on UNO's campus should apply. Qualifications include a minimum composite ACT score 30, a minimum 3.5 GPA and top 25% of their graduating class.

Students should apply at: https://pki.nebraska.edu/new/forms/scholarship_app_incoming.php. Applicants are also required to submit two recommendation forms, letters are optional. The deadline to apply is December 15, 2016.
Mrs. Ingram's son received this scholarship and is in his 4th year of the program. She would also be willing to talk to anybody about the experience.
NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards
The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards are non-renewable scholarships created to recognize young people who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative. The scholarships are valued between $2,000 and $15,000. The NFIB Young Entrepreneur program was established to raise awareness among the nation’s youth of the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the building of America.
An applicant for the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards need to be a graduating high school senior who is entering his or her freshman year at an accredited two-or four-year university, college, or vocational institute in the fall of 2017 and who owns/operates an established business. Many applicants participate in organizations such as DECA, Junior Achievement, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Future Farmers of America (FFA), National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), among others, but this is not a requirement. The Award recipients are selected by an independent scholarship organization. Scholarships are merit-based, not based on financial need.
