Kindness Is Free - Let's Spread It Like Our Brickies Do!
Moments like these happen all around us all the time, and if we make it a point to notice them, we will find ourselves doing more positive actions. Just like a frown or grouchy action can ruin one's day, a smile and act of kindness can make one's day. Always choose to create your day and start by smiling and doing a kind deed. You will be amazed at how it can spread.
Youth And Government At Hobart High School!
Letter from Indianapolis:
The 2022 INYaG conference held in Indianapolis at the Statehouse was again a rewarding experience for our Hobart High School delegates. As an InYaG leader for the past 32 years I've had the opportunity to see our youth find their voices and advocate for what they believe and gain confidence as they write their bills, debate them and serve as officers, committee chairs, Senators, Representatives, Attorneys and Justices.
Colin May , teacher advisor and Sharon Tarry, Director Hobart Family YMCA, part of the Crossroads YMCA Association, appreciate the support of Dr. Buffington and SCOH School Board for their continued support. Delegates who served as officers: Brennis Carrillo, Chief Justice, Sydney Belk, committee chair and Hobart's Y & G President, Ty Vann, committee chair, Aydan Ward, Deputy Secretary of State. Jackson Ray, 2023 Youth Governor candidate, and Donovan Ruiz, Outstanding Senator.
Brickie Ben Competes In The National Marksmanship Competition!
In December, the Civilian Marksmanship Program announced the team and individual finalists for the National Sporter Rifle Marksmanship Championships. In the JROTC Army division, only 18 of the more than 165 teams qualified for the 3 day event. Here comes the amazing part...ONLY 8 of over 1,550 NATION-WIDE cadets qualified for one of the finalist spots from our state. Ben qualified as the 2nd individual overall!! He is the SECOND qualifier in Hobart History to make it that far! (Justice Greenleaf competed in 2019)
He went on to represent Hobart High school at the Army JROTC National Marksmanship Championship in Camp Perry, OH this past February and did FANTASTIC! The top 75 Sporter Class Marksmen in the Army JROTC competed with the mindset to #AimSmallMissSmall and Ben did just that and finished 31st in the NATION!
Amazing work out there, Ben. You certainly made the Brickie Nation proud!
Brickie Wrestlers Took The #BrickRode To STATE!
The first rounds took place Friday night and early Saturday morning with Aidan and Seth taking on some fierce competition and while holding their ground, came to the send of their season with a loss. We can't help but be proud of these two young men for making it down there and being one of the top 16 wrestlers in the state for their weights. The next few years will be exciting!
Trevor and Jake conquered their first matches which instantly put them in the top 8. They both fell to some hard losses with their second matches, but remained confident and hit the mat for the final time. They left it all out on the mat and they both finished 6th in the STATE! That is a great way to finish your senior year. Way to go, Bricks!
Ethan Dives His Way To STATE!
These State Finals were no different than the others he had seen. The talent was fierce, but nothing was going to stop Ethan from achieving his goals. He had 8 dives to conquer to make it into the top 16 and qualify for the finals - he did phenomenally! The finals were no exception, Ethan performed each dive with composure and was a joy to watch, whether live or on the screen! In the end his senior diving season ended with a 9th place title at STATE and we are so proud. Ethan, you did not let anything stop you from achieving your goals and your perseverance will take you far in life. Congratulations on a great season!

Goal Setting Tips For Our Brickies
Goal Setting Tips For Our Brickies!
Here are some tips that can help students set effective goals:
1. Goals are intentional commitments to action, not a wish list.
"I want to get an A" lacks power. "I will work hard (How), to earn an A," is intentional and powerful.
2. Be specific.
“Find help" is too general. "I will find 5 resources that will help me before the end of the month" is better.
3. Share your goals with someone who cares if you reach them.
Sharing your intentions with your parents, your best friend, or your teacher will help ensure success.
4. Write down your goals and put them where you will see them.
The more often you read your list, the more results you get.
5. Review and revise your list.
Experiment with different ways of stating your goals. Goal setting improves with practice!
S.M.A.R.T. Goals!
Help your child succeed by setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals!
You can work with your students by helping them set specific, measurable, achieveable, results-focused, and time-bound (S.M.A.R.T.) Goals!
Our students can login into Google and access these forms. You can do this together and have them submit to their teacher. Monitor progress together!

March's SEL Classroom Lessons
This month students are applying the skills that they have been learning this year during the SEL lesson.
Students will practice using growth mindset, checking in with their emotions and practicing breathing, movement, journaling, and drawing to support how they feel.
This is a great time to use the March Wellness Calendar at home. (above)
This will support your student applying what he/she has practiced and learned this school year.
Parent and Caregiving Wellness
Again this month we included our 1000hrs of outside time goal! It is amazing and, though sounds intimidating, is very doable! Especially when we have a great National Park within minutes of us!
Our body and mind still need fresh air and sunlight. Even though it may be a little chilly outdoors, we can still go for a nice walk or play at the park. As the sunlight increases, let’s all set a goal of getting 1000 hours of outside time. Here is a tool to keep track of your time as well as ideas. 1000 Hours Outside Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Zoladz for this resource. This has become a goal of their family this year. 1000 hours – We can do it! Let’s get outdoors and begin to enjoy the fresh air.
Finally, it is Conversation Time!! Yes, actual face to face conversation!
A meal together may be brief as we have many activities in the evening; however, use the time as a chance to learn and listen to each other. As you sit down together for a meal, give these conversation cards a try.
No matter if you are a single parent or co-parenting, we can all use support.

Spring Musical - "Back To The 80s!"
Buy your tickets at www.hobart.k12.in.us/musical
Join the class of 1985 as they experience the fun and heartbreak of growing up in a totally awesome decade.
Back to the 80's tells the story of the senior class of William Ocean High School, as remembered through the eyes of now thirty-something Corey Palmer. Seventeen-year-old Corey is madly in love with his next-door neighbor, Tiffany Houston, one of the coolest girls in the school, but she is too busy mooning over Michael Feldman, the hottest guy around. Michael and his friends are athletic and good looking — the kind of guys that Corey and his two best friends dream of being. However, while they may not be the coolest guys in school, they are still one up on Feargal McFerrin, III, whose best friend is his computer and who believes the crazy notion that one day, CDs will replace cassette tapes.
Throw in a Star Wars dream sequence, high-energy dance routines, the obligatory 80s party scene, copious amounts of blue eyeshadow, twenty cans of hairspray, as well as some of the most popular songs ever written, and the result is a musical that will delight and amuse audiences of any age!
