Message From the Principal
It is hard to believe the third grading period has begun. Please continue to encourage your child to work hard and do their best every day.
Our PBIS plan is in full swing and going well at South School. Students are working hard to be Respectful, Responsible and Safe every day. Students and classrooms are meeting their behavior goals regularly. As a South School family, we are working to earn a "Glow Party" when we meet our next goal. Keep up the good work!!
Being at school everyday, on time, is very important. When students are habitually tardy for school, they miss important instruction. Morning routines help to set students up for success and when they miss these routines, their day often begins in a chaotic and stressful manner. It is important for our youngest students to establish good habits early. Often when attendance issues begin at these early grades, they continue throughout their school career and beyond. We have noticed an increase in the number of student absences and the number of students that are tardy for school. Please keep students home if they are sick, otherwise, they should be here. Our doors open in the morning at 8:40. Students must be in their seats ready to begin the day at 8:55 to be considered on time for school. Thank you for your help in stressing the importance of attendance and punctuality.
There are many things happening in the next few weeks. Check out our newsletter for more details and information.
Stay warm, safe and healthy,
Tracie Murphy, Principal

Kindergarten Registration for 2024-2025
If your child will be 5 years old on or before August 1, you can enroll him/her in kindergarten for the 2024/2025 school year. Beginning January 16, 2024, you can complete the on-line enrollment by going to www.dovertornadoes.com and clicking on the parent tab. You will then click the box that says “New Student” and follow the instructions to complete the enrollment process. If your child is currently enrolled in our preschool, it is NOT necessary to complete the on-line enrollment. After completing this process, you will receive kindergarten paperwork in the mail. This paperwork will need to be completed and returned to the administration building. There will be an opportunity for you to visit South School, Meet the staff, learn about support agencies in our community and receive some information during our Kindergarten Visitation night on March 21st from 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM. If you have questions, please call our enrollment office at (330) 364-7144.
Yearbook Orders
Yearbook order forms have gone home. The forms are due by February 28th. In order to be guaranteed a yearbook, you will need to order one in advance. There may be a few extras to purchase; however, there is no guarantee.
Pre-School Updates
Preschool tuition is $130.00 each month. Please be sure to pay at the beginning of each month to maintain your spot in the class. We will soon be planning our preschool classes for the 2024/2025 school year. We currently have a waiting list. You will receive a call at the beginning of February if there is a spot for your child. We will make calls based on the order of the waiting list and if your child will be 3 years old by August 1st. The number of preschool spots available varies each year. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to call South School for more information.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are an important part of our education program. Conferences provide home and school an opportunity to work together in the education of the student.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for:
Thursday, March 7th from 4:15-7:45 P.M.
Wednesday, March 13th from 4:15-7:45 P.M.
Teachers will be contacting you regarding your appointment date and time.
Fees
Prompt payment of workbook and supply fees is greatly appreciated. The fee for K-5th grade is $25.00. As always, thank you for your cooperation. Report cards for the third nine weeks will be held until fees are paid.
Pre-school tuition must also be paid by the first of each month. Our preschool tuition is currently $130.00 per month. Failure to pay your preschool tuition will forfeit your spot in our program.
100th Day (K-1st grade)
The 100th day of school for Kindergarten and 1st grade is February 7th as of today. (It could change based on any snow days.) Preschool will celebrate their 100th day in April. We encourage students to wear a 100th day of school shirt. It is not necessary to purchase anything for this day. Students can create their own by attaching 100 items to a shirt they already have. If you have a t-shirt that you don’t mind them drawing on, they could also draw their own items. Classroom activities may be planned.
Valentine Parties
Valentine Parties will be held on Wednesday, February 14th. Teachers will hold their parties at a time that is convenient for their schedules. We will not be having parent volunteers attend this party; however, you may be asked to donate snack items. Students enjoy passing out their Valentine cards and “reading” them while snacking on holiday treats. This doesn’t allow enough time for activities and games. The PTG will be providing white bags for every student to decorate for their Valentines. Teachers will send home information with their procedure for completing Valentine cards.
Rainbow Connection
Dover Elementary Schools are joining forces to participate in the Rainbow Connection Drive.
The Rainbow Connection has partnered with Dover City Schools over the years and helped us to provide equipment and services for our students and families. We would now like to give back to this organization.
Students can participate in 2 dress up days. These days will be Monday, March 4th and Tuesday, March 5th. We are encouraging students to bring 50¢ each day to participate. All donations will go to the Rainbow Connection.
Monday, March 4: Hat Day: Donate 50¢ and wear your favorite hat.
Tuesday, March 5: PJ day: Donate 50¢ and PJs.
