Principal's Notes
Week of May 12, 2024
Happy Sunday to you, and a very Happy Mother's Day to our ICS Family!
We had an extremely busy week! Thank you to all of our families that helped appreciate our teachers in any way this week. They were all so touched and grateful for the appreciation.
On Monday, we had our Third Quarter Honors Assembly. Deacon Frank Orlando was able to join us, as were many families. I cannot believe that the next Honors Assembly is on the last day of school already! This year has certainly flown by fast!
Students in Grades 3 to 8 participated in the NYS Math exams. I am so proud of how our students handled the testing process, and know that they were very well-prepared by their teachers. They all did their very best. I am very proud of them.
Spring MAP Testing also began this week. The testing will continue into next week. Please make sure students are well rested and have a good breakfast each day. Please refer to my Bloomz message from earlier in the week for the Spring MAP Testing letter.
Thursday was Ascension Thursday. Our Kindergarten class prepared the mass for us and did an outstanding job! Thank you to Mrs. Driscoll and Mrs. Santoro for doing such a great job with our Kindergarten students. Fr. Novio was our Celebrant and was quite impressed with our students' knowledge of Ascension Thursday and Pentecost. Another proud moment!
Yesterday, our 2nd Grade Class made their First Holy Communion. What a wonderful day! It is a very special moment when our communicants receive Jesus for the first time. May God bless them always.
We thank our Celebrant, Fr. Sorgie. As well we thank our PREP director, Deacon Frank Orlando, and our own 2nd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Brady, for preparing our students so well.
We have another busy week ahead! We have our 2nd Grade Communion Breakfast, the May Crowning, the Archdiocesan Graduation Mass for our 8th Grade students at Sacred Heart Church, trips to the Maritime Aquarium, and Charlie and the Bubble Factory show, not to mention another week of our Spring After School Clubs!
The Parish Festival is coming very soon. Each year Immaculate Conception School runs a food tent. This has traditionally been run by our Father's Club. This year we are transitioning the food tent into a family tent. We are in need of volunteers to help throughout the weekend. The Festival dates are Thursday, May 30th to Sunday, June 2nd. If you sign up for a 2 hour shift, your child(ren) will receive an afternoon of extra recess on Monday, June 3rd. For the parents, if you sign up for a 2 hour shift, you will be entered in a raffle for a $100 Visa gift card. I hope you will consider joining us for a fun weekend.
All proceeds will go to building our new Early Childhood playground!
Please note the change in Tuesday's lunch offering. We will now be offering grilled cheese with french fries each Tuesday. As well, please make sure you are aware of what days you have ordered lunch. We will not be able to provide lunch to your child if you did not order. The window for ordering lunch is a full week. Since the food comes from an outside vendor, and not cooked in our kitchen, we do not have extra lunches to give out.
Please be aware, if your child is going on a class trip, do not order lunch for that day. If you do so in error, we will send the lunch home with your child. As well, we are seeing a number of students, predominantly in the upper grades, who are coming to school without lunch. Additionally, we are also seeing snacks and candy being used as lunch. Students need to bring in something more than candy and snacks so they are able to get through the day.
Now that the nicer weather is coming, I would like to address two items of concern brought to my attention. First, water bottles. Water bottles are to be used for just that, water. No other beverages are permitted. This includes juice, soda, and hot chocolate. Teachers will be paying extra attention to what students are drinking. Soda is never allowed, even at lunch.
Second, remaining on campus at dismissal. When students are dismissed and parents/guardians pick up children, it is now the parent/guardian responsibility to watch them. I cannot stress enough that students, especially our very young students, must be watched at all times. They cannot go into the parking lot or the oval unattended. Cars drive through these areas constantly. It only takes a split second for a child to get hurt. In order to keep all safe, I must insist that if you are staying on the property for a short period of time, please move to the field so that children are not on any blacktop and so you can keep an eye on them. Thank you for your cooperation regarding the above matters.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Ascension Thursday Mass
Our Kindergarten did a phenomenal job preparing for our Mass. Thank you to Mrs. Driscoll and Mrs. Santoro for working so hard with our Kindergarteners. And thank you to our parents for working with their children, and for coming to the Mass!
First Holy Communion
May God bless our children always!
Parking Lot Reminders
Please review parking lot reminders:
- Please do not park in the upper lot for drop off in the morning. Not following the procedures could result in someone getting hurt. We must do everything we can to keep everyone safe.
-When waiting for school to be dismissed, please do not let your car idle in the parking lot. Allowing your cars to idle, releasing the exhaust, is not healthy for anyone to breathe. Please shut your car off when waiting in the parking lot.
-If your child is late and arrives to school after 8:10, you must park in the main lot and walk your child to the main entrance. You cannot drive down the oval and drop off at the front door. The oval is used for handicap parking spaces for parishioners, and since there is 8:30 mass daily, it is a busy time of morning.
- Now that the nice weather is upon us, families tend to hang around after pick up. While I love that friends, both adults and children alike, enjoy talking to one another and playing, I must ask that we be safe about it. The oval is active. If you stay after school, please move to the field so that our children remain safe. Adult supervision is a must at all times.
- When finding a parking spot in the main lot, you must not block the rectory driveway, make your own parking spot, or move/run over the blue cones. The blue cones belong to the parish. If they are in a designated area it is because we cannot park there. Please be mindful of where you are parking at pick up.
Thank you for your cooperation regarding the above matters.

AFTERCARE CORNER
Attendance and Punctuality
Being on time, and being present in school makes a very big difference. Please make every effort to have your children in school on time. Being late not only disrupts your child's education, but also disrupts the class.
School policy states 6, or more latenesses in a quarter will result in a drop of one letter grade in Conduct on the report card.
