Summer Learning
It is time to start thinking about summer learning! To help students maintain their learning from the school year, summer is a great opportunity to practice reading, writing, and math skills each day. Just 20 minutes of reading each day can make a difference in student reading skills and prevent summer slide. The summer goal should be to maintain skills learned throughout the school year with daily practice.
Students will receive login information to programs such as Lexia, Freckle Math, Imagine Math, and other programs that can be used throughout the summer to practice skills from the school year.

SAFETY/SERVICE
2017-2018
In May, Defer Safety/Service enjoyed their final fun night of the year. It was a beautiful day to go to Windmill Pointe Park. We enjoyed hot dogs, fruit, snacks, drinks and desserts. Thank you to those parents who so generously donated snacks, desserts and drove to the park. Everyone enjoyed good fun, food and friends. Thank you to Joe Srebernak who grilled for us.
I hope you noticed all the awesome 4th graders who volunteered to take over for the 5th graders who went to camp. They wore bright orange belts and I am so proud of all of them. To volunteer for a job full of responsibility, is commendable.
To all Safety/Service members who are finishing your time at Defer, you should be proud because you made Defer a better, safer place. May you enjoy success in your future endeavors and remember to represent your alma mater, Defer Elementary in the best way.

Defer Families,
I want to thank each and every one of you for a fantastic year! It was a pleasure to be the PTO President of such a wonderful school community. When I look back at this school year, I am proud of all that we accomplished in support our students, families, teachers and staff. I am excited to leave my position to Kelly Warnick who will be our 2018-19 PTO President. She and the board will undoubtedly make great things happen again next year. If you have any questions or are interested in helping in any way, please contact any board member (see link).
