COURAGE
We are excited to share with you the focus of our Capturing Kids Hearts character word of the month: courage! As we delve into the theme of courage throughout March, we aim to instill in our students the bravery and determination to face challenges head-on.
Courage comes in many forms, whether it's speaking up in class, trying something new, or standing up for what is right. By highlighting courage as our character word of the month, we hope to inspire our students to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new opportunities, and demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity.
Throughout the month, our teachers will be incorporating discussions, activities, and lessons centered around courage into their classrooms. We encourage you to continue this conversation at home by discussing with your child what courage means to them and sharing stories of times when you've demonstrated courage in your own lives.
Together, let's empower our students to be courageous individuals who are unafraid to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact in the world.
Thank you for your ongoing support in fostering the growth and development of our students.
MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL
March 1
For the first time in Washington Elementary history, we are having a Multicultural Festival!
During the week of February 26 to March 1st, we will highlight some of the different cultures represented at our wonderful school. Then, on the evening March 1st (5:30-7:30), we will have our BIG festival. We have nearly 15 families who have volunteered to showcase their home countries! You will get to enjoy some family treasures, photographs, and other cultural artifacts. You may even get to sample some tasty treats. We have a few area dancing troupes who have volunteered to perform! This is an evening you DON'T want to miss! Bring the family and join in the FREE fun! Parking can be tricky, so please feel free to use the Methodist Church parking deck located on Lafayette Street.
SPRING PICTURES 📸
March 6th
Individual & Class pictures will be taken this day.
All students will have a group picture taken with their homeroom, however, only students who have picture money or have already paid will have their individual picture taken. Please note that there will not be a retake day for these pictures.
ATLAS TESTING
Our testing dates for 3rd and 4th grade are as follows:
March 7 - Writing
April 16 - Reading
April 18 - Math
April 23 - Science
These assessments take the place of the ACT Aspire test.
Preparing for the ATLAS Test:
While the ATLAS test is designed to measure students' ongoing learning and growth, there are ways parents can support their child's preparation:
- Encourage regular reading at home to enhance vocabulary and reading comprehension skills.
- Practice basic math skills through games, real-life applications, and online resources.
- Help your child develop strong writing skills by encouraging them to express their thoughts clearly and coherently.
- Foster a curiosity for science by engaging in hands-on experiments, nature walks, and discussions about scientific concepts.
Get a good night's rest, show up on time, and eat a healthy breakfast!
For more information, visit the Arkansas Department of Education ATLAS website.
CHILDREN'S BOOK SWAP
March 13th
Looking to start or refresh your home library? Here's your opportunity!
Send any gently loved books (Kindergarten and up) to school with your reader or drop them off in the hallway beside the office. We will collect and display those in the library on Wednesday, March 13th.
In addition to typical children's books, kiddos are drawn to cookbooks with pictures, art books, gardening books, and other coffee table books.
Don't have any books to donate? No big deal! EVERY Wildcat will walk away with a FREE BOOK!
SPRING PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
March 13th & 14th
Please keep your eyes open for communication from your child's teacher regarding scheduling your parent teacher conference time. This is a special time when we get to celebrate your learner's growth and to discuss how to address any learning opportunities that still remain. Sign up early to secure a time!
