Charger Check-In
January 26, 2023
A Note from Ms. Owens
We had quite the busy day at St. Catherine today! We opened registration to new families, we went outside for recess (the first time with accumulated snow on the lawn), we rehearsed for Sunday's Catholic School's Week Mass, and we held our annual 8th Grade Science Fair. Of course, that is in addition to all of the amazing learning that happens each and every day! Science Fair is always a highlight of our January at SCA and I know it is nerve-racking for the 8th graders as they have put so much time, effort and energy into their projeccts. I heard presentations about the toxicity of dishwashing detergents, about the effectiveness of plastic in containing radiation, about the impact of age on reaction time, about the best way to store fruit to keep it from spoiling, about children's abilities to open child-proof caps, and about the relationship between loft angle on a golf club and the distance traveled by the ball.
Catholic Schools Week begins this Sunday with our All-Family Mass at 9:30AM followed by Open House until noon. This flier has an overview of the rest of the activities for Catholic Schools Week. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

The i-Ready winter diagnostic for reading and math is well underway at St. Catherine. This is a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate the progress they've made since the start of the school year. As with any school-wide testing experience, it is so important that we strike a balance that incorporates both the importance of i-Ready diagnostics as well as reminding students that their diagnostic results are just one measure of what they are learning in school. Thank you for partnering with your children's teachers in this effort! Once all grades have completed the second diagnostic, growth reports will be sent home to parents and guardians.
