- Strengthen grade level data team processes to accelerate student growth
- Implementation of student-led conference across all grade levels (as identified in DFES strategic plan).
Parent/Staff Communication
Mr. Scott or Mr. Gantt are available to all DFES families by phone and email. Please call the front office at (803)476-3900 if you need to speak with them. If they are not available immediately, a message will be relayed to them or a meeting can be scheduled.
Effective communication between parents and DFES staff is a must. Conferences will be established for all students during the year. However, if at any time you wish to request a conference, please notify the teacher. Also, before any concern about a classroom teacher or student is brought to the principal’s attention, it should be discussed with the student and teacher first. If the situation is not resolved, then by all means call or email Mr. Scott or Mr. Gantt. A returned response will take place within 24hrs. Mr. Scott’s email is jscott@lexrich5.org and Mr. Gantt’s is bhgantt@lexrich5.org.
The School improvement Council Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month. The meetings begin at 6:00 pm in the front office conference room. All parents are welcome to attend.
School Resource officers on DFES Campus
On March 8th, the districts SRO officers will be on our campus for training. This date is a student holiday, therefore it will not be affecting instruction.

A note from our Registrar:
4K Registration
It's time to register your preschool child for a 4K program which is done at the school your address is zoned for. Your child must be 4 years old by September 1. At DFES, start by completing the screening application available in our front office. Please bring your child's birth certificate and one proof of residence item: a lease agreement, property tax bill or mortgage statement (neither of these items will be copied at this time). For more information, please call our main office at 803-476-3900.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for Fall 2019-2020 is underway! Current 4K students do NOT use this process: they will roll up to 5K during the summer. Visit the Registration Gateway website at registration.lexrich5.org to begin the process.Once you complete the online registration, our registrar, Sharon Clemens, will call to set up a time to meet and finish the process. Contact her at 803-476-3917 for questions.
Attendance Excuses
When your child misses school, a notification email or phone message is sent to the email address we have on file. Included in the email message is a link to the DFES Student Absence Excuse Form. You can immediately send an absence note to school and even upload a doctor's note, if necessary, when you click "Add File." No longer do you have to spend time writing notes and hope they get to the right place! If you choose this way of sending notes, you do not have to send the original to school - this is it! Call with questions: Sharon Clemens, 803-476-3917.
Parent Portal
Parents of 3rd-5th graders who would like to check their children’s attendance and grades can use Parent Portal. Parents or Legal Guardians listed in PowerSchool will first need to show a picture ID at school to get the Access ID and Access Password to set up an account. If you have children at other District Five schools, add them too! The access is good until you leave the district or the child graduates. Also, you can access PowerSchool 24/7 from anywhere if you download the PowerSchool app in your app store for easier use. Call Sharon Clemens, 803-476-3917.
LOST AND FOUND
From the School Counselor...
In an effort to support our students and our DFES beliefs, we are planning a year-long focus on character education at our school. Each month, we will have a new theme and students will be putting that trait into practice here at school. We will also share ways to support your child’s social and emotional learning in that area at home. The following is a list of our upcoming Essential Eight themes, which were created based on staff input of what we would like all students to “know and show” at DFES. Please help us to grow good character in our students by discussing these themes as you talk with your child about the day’s events, watch movies as a family and read with your child every day.
March: Self-Control
April: Positive Communication
May: Integrity
