Library News
Last week we continued with Lesson 2 of the Digital Citizenship curriculum. Our topic was Privacy & Security.
This topic introduces students to the concept of online privacy and the potential implications of sharing private information with a range of people: friends, the public, app providers, and more. Sharing information about yourself can be a natural and healthy activity, and it can lead to positive connections and personal growth. However, it can also present safety risks, and students need to be aware of potentially harmful consequences such as identity theft and financial exploitation.
To help students see the importance of being safe and secure when they're online, our lessons include real-life scenarios where private information could potentially be shared, and where the benefits and risks are notable but not sensationalized. From encountering clickbait to setting up passwords to messaging with people online, the scenarios in our lessons provide an authentic context for grappling with the potential dangers that come with spending time online.
During minimum days of Conference week, classes will visit the Library only for check-outs. Please remind your students to bring back their books, so they have new books for the following week off. Happy Thanksgiving!
PUSD Giving Tree Sponsors Needed
PUSD has about 100 families that need a holiday sponsor! We have our internal Garden Road Giving Tree, but this is a district wide opportunity to sponsor a family around the PUSD community. If you are interested in supporting a PUSD family, please click here: https://www.powayusd.com/givingtree
Thanks again for all of your wonderful service to the children of PUSD!
Please Help Increase Our School Funding by Filling Out This Application!
Although school meals are now free to all students, the application for free and reduced-price meals is still very important. School funding depends in part on the number of students at our school who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. With all students now eating for free, fewer families are completing the application and our school is at risk of losing much-needed educational funds. Plus, students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may also be missing out on discounts on bus transportation, before and after school care, and home internet!
Even if you did not qualify before, but your income has changed, you may now qualify. For example, children from a family of four are eligible if the total gross (pre-tax) household income is less than $4,279 per month, or less than $51,338 per year. Household income information is confidential and applying online is quick and easy. Apply online at MySchoolApps.com, or pick up a paper application in the school office.
