Winter Break Reading Challenge is a Big Hit
We want to thank the many families who participated in our winter break reading challenge! All students were given a new book and a response activity for the winter break. Students who turned in their response activity sheet the week of January 4-8, were given a small prize and were entered into a drawing for Walmart gift cards. Gift card winners will be annouced at our January all school meeting. Pictured to the right is Alex with his new reading challenge book. Pictured below are snapshots from around the school of children with their new books. Photos are courtesy of Patty Winters.

Community Minded Students Create Caring Paws Club
As it turns out this group of friends have been involved for over a year in various activities to support animals and even have a Facebook page (!) that was created with parental permission and supervision. Their group description is as follows:
"This is a group of 3rd grade students that want to spread the word about the importance of adopting animals in hopes of stopping kill shelters. They started the Club when they were in 2nd grade and would love to raise money to help shelters with vetting and supplies to help get more animals adopted."
From January 11 to February 11 we will be collecting the following to donate to an area animal shelter:
- Dog & cat food and feeding supplies
- Grooming supplies- brushes, combs, trimmers
- Leashes, collars, or harnesses
- Bedding supplies- clean, used towels, blankets, or sheets
- Cat Litter and trays that would be used for litter boxes
- Cleaning supplies
Pictured below are both original group members and new supporters of the Caring Paws Club. Standing from left to right are Melania, Arianna, Aurore, A'Marie, Alyssa and kneeling Julianna, Elizabeth, and Ruby.

Caught Being Good!
Our faculty and staff use Caught Being Goods as just another way of letting children know that we notice and appreciate simple acts of being helpful and kind throughout our school. When a student receives a Caught Being Good he or she also receives a small prize from Principal Ellis. Here are some of our most recent "Catches". Pictured to the right is Kisa.
