COVID-19 Isolation Guidance for K-12 Schools
We continue to hold the safety of our students, staff, and families as a top priority. Together we will help ensure we minimize the spread of illness in our community. The current COVID protocol effective today:
1. You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
- Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
2. When you go back to your normal activities, take added precaution over the next 5 days, such as taking additional steps for cleaner air, hygiene, masks, physical distancing, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
- Keep in mind that you may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick, even if you are feeling better. You are likely to be less contagious at this time, depending on factors like how long you were sick or how sick you were.
- If you develop a fever or start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precaution for the next 5 days.
3. No notification of COVID cases is required at this time, but you may contact the Facilities/Safety Office at (360) 426-6322 if you have questions.
2023-24 Revised School Calendar
Transfer Bus Update
Districts across the state are facing budget constraints. This includes the Shelton School District. One result of budget cuts will be the end of transfer buses between the elementary schools at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
Historically, the district provided bus transportation for students whose parents/guardians elected for them to attend a different elementary school through the Open Enrollment process. The transfer bus is elective and not a mandated service or, unfortunately, reimbursed by the state. Since the state does not reimburse for transfer buses, the district incurs the added cost of fuel, bus drivers, wear on the buses, and added supervision staff at each elementary.
We will be notifying families who utilize the transfer buses starting this month and into the summer. Parents/guardians must provide transportation if they elect for their student to attend a non-neighborhood school or they may elect to enroll their student(s) back in their neighborhood school. If a family chooses to re-enroll into their home school they should contact the home school prior to the close of the open enrollment window on April 19, 2024.
Budget Update
The 2024-25 school year is fast approaching and we want families to be aware of important information about the budget for next school year.
We are currently facing a downward trend where there are fewer dollars for districts. As some of you may have heard, districts across Washington State are facing heavy budget cuts leading to staffing reductions and even closing schools.
As we enter the budget planning season, we are thoughtfully approaching each decision as budgets are built to minimize any impacts on student learning. While we are lean and need to stay lean in our spending, we are not facing an involuntary reduction in force or closing schools or programs.
Your patience and support mean a lot as we face these challenges together. Thank you for being part of the SSD community.

This production contains themes and content that may not be suitable for all ages. The students and staff involved in this production have engaged in extensive discussions about the complexities of these topics and their relevance to the lives of teenagers and families worldwide. These themes include:
- Social Status & Peer Pressure
- Stereotyping, Rumors & Gossip
- Teen Relationships & Identity
- Body Image & Appearance
- Bullying, Cyberbullying & Harassment
- Underaged Drinking & Substance Use
Our goal is to address these issues in a manner that promotes awareness of their prevalence and negative impacts on teens and their communities. While the show approaches these concerns with humor, our intention is to spark meaningful reflection and dialogue about their underlying causes and potential solutions. Thank you for joining us in this important conversation.
