Introducing Regena Bryant
Believe In Me
Kitty Franklin is the jaded, outspoken daughter of a scandal-plagued, multi-term congressman. As her father’s attorney she discreetly cleans up his political and personal dirty laundry. And she’s lost all faith in God, government and men.
Despite the rumors, Davis Thornton is moving home to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to run the faith-based community empowerment center established by his childhood hero, Congressman Roosevelt Franklin. Honest, hard-working, Davis must unite a staff divided by a salacious, viral internet scandal, while trying to nurture a relationship with the woman striving to cover it all up.
While Kitty works to shut down the blog dedicated to exposing the Congressman’s many indiscretions, she and Davis falter. Her commitment to keeping her father’s secrets doesn’t sit well with Davis. When she fails to complete the investigation at download speed; her father questions her dedication to his cause.
In ninety days she'll have to choose between love and loyalty.
Little Known Black History Fact
Rock Hill, South Carolina was the actual setting of an important event in civil rights history. In February of 1961, ten African-American men went to jail for staging a sit-in at the segregated McCrory’s lunch counter. Instead of following the usual practice of arrest, lock-up, and bail-out, nine members of this group pioneered a new strategy called “jail, no bail.” Jail, no bail shifted the cost of demonstrating. Instead of financially stapped civil rights organizations providing bail money, the authorities were forced to pay for jail space and food. The men are known as the Friendship Nine because eight of the nine men were students at Rock Hill's Friendship Junior College. They are also referred to as the Rock Hill Nine.
In creating Roosevelt Franklin I explored an unspoken reality of the civil rights story. Everyone didn’t participate in the movement. And many who attended organizing meetings never showed up for the protest.
