1st GRADE
Reading: We will continue to recognize the characteristics and structures of an informational text, including chronological order and description. We will be planning and drafting an informational paragraph by choosing an image from one of our read-alouds and describing the image and the people or things that are happening within it. Students will be expected to include an introductory sentence, a body, and a concluding sentence in their informational paragraph. Students will be tested over unit 9 on Friday.
Writing: Students will continue with their personal narrative writing by completing the drafting and editing steps for the writing process.
Phonics: We will continue the sound/spelling with the /s/ sound and spelled with a ‘c’ as in the word cinch. We will continue reading and sorting words with the spelling ‘c’ as in cat and cent (representing the sounds /k/ and /s/.) We will also continue reading and sorting words with /s/ sound and spelled with ‘ce’ as in prince and spelled with ‘se’ as in rinse. We will be reading from our new reader with a purpose and understanding and answer questions about key details in the text. Students will be reading sentences where pronouns are substituted for nouns, using the pronouns she, he, it, I, and you. Students will practice building longer sentences by using words that name locations and adjectives. Students will be reading words spelled with a ‘g’ for the /g/ sound as in gum and the /j/ sound as in germ. Our new spelling words are: sun, kiss, cent, prince, zip, jazz, pigs, and here. Students will be tested over these words on April 5.
Math: We will be learning the parts of a clock and telling time to the hour and half hour using analog and digital clocks.
Science: We will continue investigating how the external characteristics of an animal are related to where it lives, how it moves, and what it eats.
2nd GRADE
In Reading we will be learning about the tricky spellings /f/> ‘ph’ and /e/ > ‘ea’. We will also be learning about text features in informational texts. In Math we will be learning about rectangular arrays as a foundation for multiplication and division. In Science we will be learning about animal adaptations.
3rd GRADE
We hope everyone had a great long weekend! We cannot believe that April is already here! This week reading we will be starting a fun review to go over all of the skills the students have learned in third grade so far, so that they can apply those skills on their STAAR test that is just right around the corner! In math, we are starting our last unit of the year! We will be working on word problems and geometry! Quick reminder to the third grade parents that the field trip permission slips are due on Friday, April 5th.
4th GRADE
In language arts, we begin our rocking review to prepare for STAAR. We start by reviewing the genres and then begin reviewing nonfiction skills and strategies. Those skills will include context clues, summarizing, inferencing, and author's craft. In math this week we continue to review for STAAR as well as begin Unit 7 over exploring measurement with multiplication and data. We will start out this unit by creating conversion tables for length, width, capacity and unit of time and using the tables to solve problems.
5th GRADE
In ELA we will begin our review for the STAAR Reading test this week by focusing on skills to help read and analyze nonfiction texts.
In math we will be wrapping up our unit on coordinate planes. We will also be continuing to review for our upcoming STAAR test by bringing back some old skills to review.
As we press on with our STAAR review in science, we're kicking off our Rockin' Review by delving into the physical properties of matter. This engaging exploration will help solidify students' understanding of foundational concepts, setting the stage for success on the STAAR test. Get ready for an exciting journey through the world of matter!
