Missouri MAP Testing for All 3rd-8th Graders This Week
All 3rd through 8th graders will be finishing up MAP testing this week! Your support in making sure your child gets plenty of rest each night and can arrive at school promptly each morning is greatly appreciated. Don't forget to arrive early if your child would like to get breakfast at school.
We are required by the state to have every child complete the MAP test. Please ensure your child is at school during testing:
Week of April 29th - Math (All 3rd-8th graders)
- 3rd grade - 4/30, 5/1 & 5/2 from 10-11 am
- 4th grade - 4/30, 5/1 & 5/2 from 8:30-10 am (Hankins) or 10-11 am (Kettle)
- 5th grade - 4/30, 5/1 & 5/2 from 8:30-10 am
- 6th, 7th & 8th grade - 4/30, 5/1 & 5/2 from 9:35-11:05 am
In order to maintain a focused testing environment, students are not allowed to bring cell phones or smart watches into the classroom during testing. Please remind your child to leave these items at home or to speak with a teacher about securely storing them during the assessment.
Snack Donations Needed for MAP Testing
We are still in need of additional snacks and ice cream party items for our students during MAP testing. Please consider signing up to donate! Snacks should be dropped off at the front desk as soon as possible. Please let the front desk know that they are for MAP testing.
May First Friday - Spring Concert
Friday, May 3rd is our final First Friday of the year, and we are excited to host our very own Spring Concert. Unlike past First Fridays, families will be sent directly to the MPR to find a seat for the morning's performance. Grade levels will filter in every 10-20 minutes to put on their own portion of the concert and will then head back to class. The concert will likely last from 8am-9am; our order of events is: 2nd > 3rd/4th > 5th > K/1st with a special Kindergarten presentation occurring after the concert has concluded. Please feel free to join us right at 8am or filter into the MPR quietly for your student's portion. Additionally, families may quietly leave after their student's performance. We hope to see you there!
Teacher Appreciation Week
National Teacher Appreciation Week is next week, May 6th-10th! School leaders will be providing meals and snacks for staff during the week, but all students are invited to participate in Flower Friday on May 10th. On this day, students may bring flowers to distribute to teachers and staff members who are meaningful to them. Students are welcome to create flowers with craft supplies, bring flowers from your home garden, or purchase flowers from retailers such as Aldi, Costco, etc.
Additionally, if you're available to help with teacher appreciation efforts, please reach out to Mr. Butler at troy.butler@cwckansascity.org as soon as possible.
Family Survey Raffle Winner
Thank you to all of the families who completed the spring family survey! The winner of the $100 Main Event gift card is Shonta James! Congratulations!
April Board Meeting Summary
Below are highlights from the April Board of Directors meeting:
The Missouri Charter Public School Commission shared their annual visit site report. The Commission commended Dr. Miles and the CWCKC team for having high expectations and serving our students well. The overall score of our visit was "Partially Meets", but our Commission representative repeatedly mentioned that this is only because we have goals that exceed those of other schools, and our students are growing at a rate above surrounding schools. Due to our strong standing, the Commission is extending a $45,000 rebate of annual fees back to us.
The board was introduced to two new potential board members from the Blaque KC board draft last weekend, Ms. Sophia Bond and Mr. James Brown.
The board has met all four expectations of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education MSIP-6 School Improvement Plan! The DESE representative was especially complimentary about how our board uses data to inform decisions.
We continue to be on strong financial footing as we look ahead to 2024-2025!
Enrollment for 2024-2025 is going very well. We currently have wait lists in many grades. We do have openings in kindergarten, 1st grade, and 6th grade right now.
Final Club Meetings
Spring clubs are wrapping up! Below are the final dates for the remaining clubs:
D&D Initiates - Tuesday, April 30th
D&D Veterans - Thursday, May 2nd
Drama Club - Thursday, May 9th
Field Day Volunteers Needed
The eighth annual Field Day will take place on Friday, May 24th! We need about 75 adult volunteers to make this day great for the students, so please consider celebrating with us at this event. No background clearance is needed, so all caregivers are encouraged to sign up today!
Summer School Materials Fees
If you have not yet paid your summer school fees, please pay them as soon as possible. Cash/check payments can be dropped off at the front desk. If you indicated that you'd prefer to pay through your Parent Portal, follow these directions:

- Click "Add to Cart" for all fees
- Click on "My Cart" and check out
Summer school is filling up, but we still have a few spots available! Click here to begin your family's registration! We will notify you if your student needs to be added to the wait list.
After-care available at CWCKC until 6 pm through Camp Fire, but registration is required.
Family Movie Night Cancelled
Due to the number of end-of-year activities, we've made the difficult decision to cancel the family movie night for this spring. We hope to hold the event next year instead!
