Hilsman Middle School
Cappy's Corner
Can you believe that it's the end of November? It has been an amazing three months at Hilsman and we are moving full speed ahead. From the awesome participation at Open House and HilFest to our most recent Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies at the Hilsman Health Center and HMS, it has been an outstanding quarter to be a Panther!
AWESOME UPDATES:
Since August, Hilsman has been implementing PBIS practices and it’s working BIG TIME because our focus is identifying and glorifying the positive! Every month we host several events for the 97% of our students who consistently “DO THE RIGHT THING!” From Walk-n-Talks, Donut Days to “Panther Parties” and school-wide attendance raffles, we are consistently encouraging positive behaviors through our PBIS Stamp and recognition system! As a result of our diligent focus on the positive, compared to last year, our behavior referrals for the 1st quarter are down by 32% and our attendance has improved by 23%!
Our students and staff are working hard and greatness is happening in our Panther Palace. Yes, it was definitely a GREAT quarter to be a Panther!
Moving forward, please continue to enjoy this quarterly newsletter which will provide you with school-wide updates, recognition's, and inspiration about our Panthers. Parents, thank you for all of your amazing support! Teachers, thank you for providing outstanding instruction to our students. Students, thank you for being amazing learners. Other staff members, thank you so much for keeping everything in order so that teachers can teach and students can learn. I am so happy to be a Hilsman Panther where TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!
Your Proud Principal,
Cappy Douglass

“And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Parent Advisory Board
The Parent Advisory Board exists as an avenue for parents to communicate any district concerns, ideas or feedback. PAB welcomes any communication parents may have that reaches beyond Hilsman. The members are presently working on ways to efficiently get this information from parents. In the interim, any communication can be sent to Jennifer Holihan-Collazo, Hilsman PAB member, at autumnini@gmail.com. Presently, there are openings for 3 more parents to serve on this board. Email Jennifer if you are interested in joining PAB for Hilsman, we would love to have you on the team!
