YLP Feature: Practicing Gratitude the S.M.A.R.T. Way
Third period thanked Mr. Binh, Mr. Jorge, and Ms. Idalia for all of the work that they put into keeping our school beautiful and functional while also coordinating the new building construction. These LwC girls threw the team a mini lunch party with food and handwritten cards.
Fourth period thanked the front office, administration, advancement, and finance teams as well as Ms. Morrison and Mr. Perez by delivering cupcakes and thank you notes-- they wanted to recognize and express their gratitude for all the hard work these people do behind the scenes.
Seventh period thanked the admissions team-- Ms. O'Brien, Ms. Kafoglis, and Mr. Lopez-- for the work they put into welcoming middle schoolers and showcasing all that IWA has to offer. They did this with a potluck lunch (including home-made soft pretzels!), cards, and an impromptu Disney dance off.
Eighth period's gratitude goal is set to take place at the beginning of May to thank a special group of individuals who work hard every day while bringing positivity to conversations with each and every student.
Thanks to all those in Mrs. Q's LwC classes for showing members of our community how loved they are this month!

LwS Team: Project REACH
Members of the 2017 Leading with Service class have partnered with Catholic Charities, planning Project REACH: Raising Everyone’s Awareness Can Help. This project was created out of an understanding of the refugee crisis as an immediate and relevant problem facing our world today. The REACH team is attempting to bridge the gap between understanding the problem and acting upon it. The team hosted a Q&A panel, with panelists from the Catholic Charities program, in order to educate students on the current state of this humanitarian issue. Additionally, the team is planning a field day event for children that are currently housed at the National Charities Homes for Refugees. They hope that they will enlighten and invite a better future for these refugees and others worldwide.

Freshman Program
On April 19th during flex, the Freshman team held their FINAL freshman Popcorn Leadership event of the school year! The freshmen and YLP members huddled in small groups in the YLP Room to watch Camp Rock (which won by a landslide vote) and discuss a key component of leadership and the 3Bs: building others up and making them feel safe to be themselves. It has been an incredible year of community building and leadership development. Thank you to Vicki, Julia, and the entire freshman team for your hard work and to all the freshmen who attended throughout the year!

May 18th: Club/ Organization T-Shirt Day-- show your YLP pride!!
On May 5th, a group of YLP-ers will be attending the annual Leadercast event! Leaders like Tyler Perry, Daniel Pink, and Suzy Welch will be giving presentations about how to be a leader and their journeys of becoming leaders. IWA is the only high school that attends, so we are so excited for some of our very own team members to be inspired at this awesome event!
