April 13th Updates
Hello North Crawford Middle and High School Parents,
I hope that this newsletter finds you healthy and able to adapt to the changes that have been presented to all of us. Thank you again for your patience and willingness to work with the teachers as we all try to figure out what this new virtual world looks like. In my opinion the most important part of this is the emotional well being of the students that attend North Crawford. Yes, we want them to stay engaged and continue to learn but their well-being as humans dealing with a crisis is what's most important. We are doing the best we can and that is all we can expect from students and their families.
Attached to this newsletter is a document that explains some of the educational changes during the COVID-19 challenge that we are facing. Click on the document link in this sentence to view the grading document, there is quite a bit of information within that document. This is a fluid document which we are looking at and adapting as more information comes out and we get a clearer picture of how long remote education will be lasting. If there are any questions in regards to the document feel free to reach out to our counselor or myself for clarification. Our contact information can be found at the end of this opening dialogue.
Mobile hotspots have been delivered to the majority of families that were in need prior to this "Safer at Home" order. If you haven't received one yet and you were expecting one, or if your situation has changed and you need access to a hotspot please contact Donna Starkey, Stephanie Colsch or myself. Listed below are a few reminders as we move toward providing a predominantly virtual education. Some of them will be the same as before but I have a few additions to this list. The resources on the bottom and videos are different than the information that I provided in the first newsletter.
Stay safe and I can't wait to be back in the building with students and staff as we move forward from these very challenging times.
REMINDERS
1. We are starting virtual education this week and all students should be checking their Google Classroom and email for instructions for the day and the upcoming week. I would suggest having your son/daughter show you where their work is being housed so the process is clear to you as their guardians.
2. A reminder that food will now only be delivered once a week. Tuesday is the delivery day this week. That schedule was put on our website and I wanted to let families know who don't have internet that we will be delivering school work on those once a week deliveries as well.
3. I have decided to send out the technology survey after we get through the week of April 13th. This will give you some more insight into what challenges you are having and allow us to keep in contact and provide assistance to students and/or families that are struggling. Please don't hesitate to reach out to teachers or administration if you are experiencing difficulties already and we will try and work through challenges together.
4. Please remember to reach out to teachers with questions or clarifications that you need when those concerns arise. Teachers are here to help and want to see your sons and daughters succeed. The communication between families and teachers is vital and we hope to increase the opportunities for those communications moving forward.
5. If you are having technical difficulties please reach out to your children's teacher for clarification first. For google password resets or technology concerns please contact Donna Starkey, dstarkey@ncrawford.k12.wi.us, or 608-735-7225 during office hours and leave your contact information.
6. Many teachers will be using video teleconferencing (Zoom, Google Meet) for instruction and/or office hours, if you don't consent to your child using teleconferencing please let your child's teacher and/or administration know.
7. The Department of Public Instruction's recommendations for the amount of time Middle and High School students should spend on school work every day while at home is 3 - 4.5 hours. We of course understand that there are circumstances that may prevent this from happening at some homes and we are understanding of challenges that will look different in every home. We are asking that everyone try their best and keep progressing and learning, that is the most important thing.
8. Please continue to practice social distancing and hand washing practices that will stunt the spread of COVID-19. Let's try and do all we can to prevent the spread of this in our community.
9. If there are other needs that you have don't hesitate to reach out to our counselor and myself so we can hopefully provide you with resources and answers to the best of our ability.
