March 19
March 19, 2023
Hello Class of 2023!
I hope you enjoyed your spring break and are geared up for the final lap of the semester! It's great to see so many of you getting your Strawberry Breakfast tickets. Remember you can only get them online until May 17. Each graduate is entitled to three complimentary tickets; additional tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
Updates below about severe weather tickets and of course, a reminder about the Grad Fair! If you have any questions or concerns, email marketingoffice@hood.edu or visit hood.edu/commencement.
Best,
Laurie Ward
Vice President for Marketing and Communications
A Tradition of Legacies
A tradition that began under President Chapdelaine, graduates who are legacies are recognized when they cross the stage and are met by their family member at the bottom of the stage. If you are a legacy and want to take part in this tradition, please fill out the Commencement Legacies form.
Severe Weather Tickets
Severe weather tickets can be picked up at the Grad Fair. After March 22, tickets will be available at the Whitaker Campus Center switchboard. Graduates are allotted three tickets* only; lost tickets will not be replaced. Commencement tickets are available only to graduates who notify the registrar’s office of their intent to participate in the Commencement ceremony.
Tickets are only needed in the event of severe weather.
The College will always attempt to hold the Commencement ceremony outdoors. In case of severe weather, Commencement will be moved into the Ronald J. Volpe Athletic Center with limited, ticketed seating for guests. Additional seating for guests where the ceremony will be live streamed (locations TBD).
Severe weather is classified as lightening or high winds; rain is not considered severe weather. Therefore, the commencement ceremony will proceed if it’s raining. Graduates and guests should dress appropriately for the weather. The College will make announcements about weather-related changes to the Commencement ceremony via hood.edu, email and social media.
The commencement committee will be monitoring the weather the week leading up to commencement for any indication of possible severe weather that may impact the ceremony and communicate any changes as soon as possible.
Grad Fair
This year, you won't need to order your regalia online and wait for it to arrive. Herff Jones will be on hand with a full inventory so you can come to the Grad Fair and purchase and take your regalia that day. There will be an opportunity to purchase online but the best prices for regalia will be at the Fair.
Other offices including the Graduate School financial aid, alumni relations and the Gear Shop will be there with important information and giveaways. Marketing and communications will be there to take professional headshots, so come camera ready!
Refreshments, giveaways and more!
