Digital reading gives our students new opportunities, but it also places different demands on the reader. What are these differences? How do we support students in purposeful selection of digital texts? How do we guide them toward deeper comprehension? This session will discuss the thoughtful transitions necessary as we move toward one-to-one in our elementary classrooms.

- Readers need to know how to use digital tools for reading (the reading process stays essentially the same, the way a reader interacts with text might be different)
- Readers need to build stamina in digital text
- Readers need to learn to be intentional readers (which links are digital obstacles and which take our understanding deeper)
- Readers need to learn to build understanding by connecting and synthesizing information from a variety of sources and media

- Model use of digital texts and media across the literacy framework
- Demonstrate the behaviors and strategies of digital readers
- Utilize digital sites available to young readers
- Connect readers to the reading community beyond their classroom
